The extremely useful, totally awesome, loved by all who used it information overlay in the upper left corner showing size, direct play/transcode, etc disappeared over a year ago when the new Android player was rolled out. The new player is now the default and it is no longer possible to switch back to the old player in the app settings.
Plex has teased bringing the information overlay back, but unfortunately has yet to do so. You can see some, but not all, of the same information by selecting the three vertical dots below the progress bar and choosing Playback Information.
You can sideload different versions of the Plex android app if desired. Google “Shield sideload”, “FireStick sideload”, etc for details. You can pull the APK from the Plex for Android announcement thread. You’ll also need the Downloader app from the Google or Amazon app stores.
When you size load an app you no longer receive updates via the app store. You will have to sideload any subsequent updates as well. To return to receiving updates from the app store, simply delete the sideloaded version and download the latest version from the applicable app store.
