When we turn the Apple TV off whilst watching live TV on Plex and then turn it back on, it actually resumes playback from where we left off watching that particular channel. Is that normal or a bug? Not sure how long it actually plays for but so far we’ve been playing for 30 mins.
I have noticed though that when we go back to the guide after doing this that it is empty and the only way of fixing it is to stop the app and start it again. Sometimes skipping forward in this state it sort of hangs or crashes the app.
When you say that you “turn the Apple TV off whilst watching live TV on Plex”, what do you mean exactly?
Do you simply turn off your TV while playback was still going on?
Do you press the home button to exit Plex completely?
And when you come back, is playback already happening or is it paused?
Regarding coming back to an empty guide, it seems you stumbled upon a bug (that’s likely related to the behaviour described above)… I shall investigate
My wife has a habit of pressing and holding the home button and selecting sleep whilst watching live tv. That’s what I mean by just turning it off, it switches off the TV as well through CEC.
When we press the home button to wake everything up again (Apple TV and TV) Plex is already displaying on the TV screen, with the live TV content paused on what we were watching last (from the previous night for example). I can then simply resume playback from that point and it just continues to play that content. Not sure how long for, played it for around an hour and it didn’t seem to hit an end.
If we press the menu button to go back to the guide during this time, the guide seems to have trouble displaying correctly (much of it is missing) and the boxed live feed (in the top right) just stops working. I have to then exit Plex, double tap the home button and end the instance of Plex. Upon going back in again all is good.
Similar issue on Sony xbr 930e running Android 8 plex 7.30.1.16475. I have fallen asleep while watching live TV. wake up say 6 hours later the app has closed and I am at my Sony home screen. Go into plex and whatever was playing when the app (I presume crashed) is frozen on the screen. So basically showing a still picture of whatever show and sound is playing from whatever is currently on the channel. Force stopping the app does not kill the process believe it or not. I have to reboot the TV. this has happened twice in the last two weeks. I say similar because the app is not closed cleanly and results in unexpected behavior.
While Watching live TV channel and switching to TV Guide menu or other menu the recording the channel should be stopped in PMS. It is not happening anymore. PMS supposed to stop recording the Live TV Channel when switching to Guide or Home or completely exiting Plex App in Apple TV. I noticed that PMS continually recording the channel watch lastly.
Now I should log into PMS server and stop recording every time after I watched Live TV in Apple. Otherwise it will continually be recording forever.
