Roadmap for Other Clients

Love the new LiveTV feature. It works great both inside and outside my house on my iOS devices.

I use Roku devices on my TVs, so I’m wondering if you can give me an idea of what the roll-out roadmap looks like. Is the web version first? Android mobile?

Also, is there any chance that the live TV will be able to multicast? My HDHomerun Extend has two tuners. If I have two TVs pulling (after the Roku app is updated) the same channel, will I be using both tuners?

I know, I know…you just gave me something awesome and here I am wanting more. What can I say? I’m eager to part ways with TiVo before it’s too late.

Actually that is a commen issue for all of these types of systems. Generally the answer is simply to add more tuners. Depending on how good this gets i may add another HDHomerun Prime to get to 6 tuners.

No worries, any channel located on the same MUX will only use one tuner in the HDHomeRun.
So if you have a MUX with 4 channels on, then any of those 4 channels viewed at the same time, will only use that same tuner.
Only thing that’ll set a hard limit is actually the network connection in the HDHomeRun, it’s limited to 100Mbit/s, and if you’re watching a 20Mbit/s stream then a max of 5 people will be able to view it directly from it.

Thanks for the great answer. I ran an experiment with two Ipads whilst I watched the Tuner Status. Streaming the same channel on both did only use one tuner.

Was there any feedback to this part of the question:

I too use roku’s, android mobile, web, as well as plex media player. I’d love to know when I might be able to look forward to live tv on these devices. That, and when timeshift live is released - I’ll have no need for my legacy stuff and will be plex only all the way. I’m giddy with excitement - kinda like I was when I got my first mythtv setup to work back in the day…

Plex don’t give roadmaps or ETAs generally, however, I know that they’re looking to add more client support soon.

Thanks, Dave. I know that Plex is pretty careful with ETAs, I just wondered if anyone had an idea of the priorities. Or, does Plex have several teams/developers working simultaneously? In any case, Plex hasn’t disappointed me yet – I’ve just got to be patient!

There are different teams working on different products simultaneously, but I really can’t say when TV/DVR will come to each platform.
