Lol, it’s been addressed hundreds of times but you wouldn’t be able to tell by the resounding silence from the Plex team. 542 posts in this thread with 95% of them being outraged with how terrible the new UI is and not a peep from the Plex team.
I spent 10 hours migrating my server to Emby after seeing how Plex was handling this but I’ve been coming back every day to see just how long it is before Plex either addresses how much everyone hates this or continues pretending everyone is content with the downgrade. Looks like I’ll be visiting these forums for a loooooong time.
Any update on fixing the back button behaviour when looking at seasons of shows? Currently it takes you all the way back to the library rather than up a level to season selection. Surely this can’t be the intended behaviour? Makes navigating even more clunky, awkward and time consuming.
I haven’t gotten Jellyfin to install for me and since I’m an idiot at media servers and Plex was pretty damned hassle free to set up and run, I don’t see me leaving. I also don’t hate this interface like the majority if you do. I do feel it needs tweaks to make it easier to customize and find things. They will - NEVER - roll it back or give y’all the “classic” option. But some updates to smooth out the rougher spots would be lovely.
Also how about a tour video to outline all of the changes and how to find stuff? Like I said, I’m an idiot at this. I just want something to watch my personal digital files on my home network. I’d be happy if I could easily see a list of my library instead of scrolling alllllll the way to the end of my favorites. Put the complete library up front (or tell me how to do it), put my collections and playlists on the home page - I have duplicate playlists and if I delete one, all with that title go away. Collections I can only find if I bring of a movie IN that collection.
Smooth out the rough spots, make it a little easier to find stuff and I’d bet more people will be willing to get used to it.
Yeah the fact that they released it with zero documentation on how to use the new interface boggles my mind…but then I remember, this is Plex we’re talking about.
That makes me think they don’t really care as it’s what they want. I thought to have a successful business, you provide what the customer wants. Maybe they should watch Joe Dirt, LOL.
“Let’s get the big question out of the way - at this time we aren’t planning on rolling back this update”
Listen to your customers. We do not want your new update. Roll it back and next time do a large pilot so you’ll get feedback before alienating all of your customers.
Haven’t you seen? There are like four people that don’t hate the new interface.
Obviously that’s all the support Plex needs. I was so angry when Plex rolled out their “upgrade" but after switching to Emby it forced me to fix some of the duct tape I’ve been patching problems with over the years. It was a lot of work but it turns out that Emby is significantly faster for me and my users because it’s not bloated with a ton of stupid stuff that I don’t want anyway. I self host to get AWAY from that stuff so why Plex thinks I would want it bogging down my system is beyond me. Of course, it’s becoming very apparent that Plex doesn’t care what any of us think.
NOTE TO PLEX: I had a lifetime plex pass so, granted, you weren’t currently making money off me. I would have paid another lifetime’s pass to get you to undo the dung you forced on everyone. Instead that money went to Emby.
I haven’t switched to Emby because I feel their app layout isn’t any better. I could potentially say the same thing about Jellyfin as well, but at least it’s open source.
Been a plex user for 10+ years and haven’t even thought about switching until this horrific UI change. Bring back classic UI or make it an option atleast.
Lets see what comes first you guys waking up or we find our replacments.
Why not just provide an option to populate Favorites the first time. Then any time you rearrange, show a list of devices with check boxes to check for the ones to apply the change(s) to. Or any changes after a device initial setup, don’t appear anywhere else, although this approach is a cop-out to my first suggestion.
You’re silly. That sounds WAY too intuitive. We like our way of pushing an update everyone hates that is way less functional to meet one design aspect.
Better is subjective and usually you won’t necessarily find a significant majority one way or the other. Plex has succeeded in finding that massive majority but unfortunately it’s the portion that hate it.
Honestly, the UI is not particularly important to me and I may be in the minority there. Functionality, however, is key for me. When 90% of the people that use my server complain that it’s so much harder to use that transcends appearance. When I transitioned to Emby I expected to meet resistance when I forced everyone up sign up for a new account and then wait until I added access for them. Instead I got resounding positive feedback not only regarding how it looks but how much faster everything is.
So basically, you’ve taken our money and don’t care about our input. Wonder if there’s anything in the fine print that could potentially lead to legal action Guess it’s time to do some research
Couldn’t agree more with majority of the feedback about user experience. I love my PLEX but the new UI is terrible to navigate. It’s not intuitive and my library is hidden behind multiple tabs. @Plex team, please reconsider making changes.
I have now been using this new UI for several weeks. It still stinks. No amount of time with this garbage is going to make it good. I just gotta get some time to make the switch over to Emby.
Now that this thread is approaching 23k views and nearly 600 comments it makes it one of the largest forum threads on Plex forums it may send feedback to the admins that the vast majority of people either do not like the new UI or are scrolling through trying to find a way to revert back to an older version to get rid of this monstrosity.
I just wish the Plex team would listen to their customers and just do the right thing and roll back this release or at least create a legacy version and let the users who prefer the old UI to install it. I know it will never happen but it doesn’t stop me from complaining about it.
Time to pull out the FireTV and disable auto updates. Please reconsider Plex admins.
Support promoted playlists to home from PMS libraries and favoriting Playlist Libraries.
Where/How does this work? We have setup smart playlists of various shows that only include episodes that haven’t played in the last X number of days that we play via the shuffle button when we go to bed. Before the new UI, on the home screen we just had to navigate down a few clicks below the recently added items and continue watching and there was a section with all of the playlists, choose one, choose shuffle, done.
Now the only way to get to playlists is to go to the specific library that the show is in, navigate down, then left to the new menu, then down to playlists, then select the playlist and shuffle. It is far more complicated especially considering you only see the playlists that contain shows within the specific library that you are in, rather than all of your playlists.
