Roku Playback Restart Issue - FF\RW\Pause\Resume\Skip Intro - Direct Play vs Direct Stream

Server Version#: 1.41.3.9314
Player Version#: Plex Preview Roku - 7.30.23.9819
Hardware 1: Roku TCL TV 49S405 - Model 7104x
Hardware 2: Roku TCL TV 55R635 - Model A113X
Hardware 3: Roku Ultra 4800X

Roku TV OS: 14.0 and 14.1; I updated the OS to 14.1 just today and tested the files again and had same issue on both versions. Weird coincidence of timing there.

What I’m running into is that while playing back some files, when trying to resume from a pause or use FF\RW or skip intro, the playback starts over from the start of the file. If I try to FF to get back to where I was as soon as I hit play it starts over from the beginning again. If I try to resume from continue watching it starts from the beginning as well.

Test Files (dropbox link) - Daily Show and Kaiju No8 (Kaiju No8 has ASS\SSA subtitles but they weren’t enabled - English Audio, no subs). These are 90s clips pulled out of the original files using MKVToolnix

If I force Direct Play off and use Direct Stream on these files they playback as expected - resume and skip intro and FF\RW all function fine.

On Roku R635 and Ultra 4800X both Daily Show and Kaiju No8 experience the issue. Both devices default to Direct Play for both files.
On Roku S405 Daily Show defaults to Direct Play and has the problem. Kaiju No8 defaults to direct stream instead of direct play though so playback works and I don’t have to force direct stream.

Plex server does see that the file has been played partway so it’s keeping track of the resume position just fine - the continue watching marks are from me skipping ahead on those devices and closing out playback right after it restarts.

It seems like there’s a hiccup with identifying correct Direct Play and Direct Stream situations when Direct Play is set to auto. My anecdotal guess is that a client capability isn’t being negotiated between the device and Plex for these files. I’m really annoyed I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t connect to the S405 TV to grab local logs since it worked differently than the others so hopefully the remote logs will help there.

Even though I found a workaround for when it happens, I’d like to get back to confident Plex playback reliability for household harmony. Roku experience has been really solid (other than recent DTS-HD regression) so hopefully this info can help track this issue down.

If anything else is needed please let me know!

Bump.

Anybody know how long the remote logs stay available for troubleshooting issues?

Had another file do this same thing and will be happy to provide the additional details - logs and sample files and media info - if it’ll help get these occasional playback hiccups resolved.
