You do if you bought a toaster that worked exactly as you wanted, they then came to your house, removed half the elements, called it an “upgrade” and it never toasted to the same level again.
Being that we paid for a product and that product now isn’t what we paid for, I feel justified in the backlash that has developed as a result.
You say removed the elements, I say re arranged the elements. Its all still there you just have to take the time to adjust.
People these days just can’t handle change.
Whether the elements were removed or rearranged is irrelevant. It used to take 1 click from opening the app to be at the exact media I was after. This process is now muddied by having to move through many menus and selectors to get to the same content. No matter which way you slice it, this is not an improvement.
To be clear. I’m all for improvements to ui and features. What I am not ok with is removal of core functionality that is obviously important to a lot of people.
There will be many people who I am sure are more than happy to have plex netflixafied, I am not one of them.
I do agree with Daztro, it has become more troublesome to find stuff.
I have multiple servers, browsing to a specific tv library on one server is a nightmare, i need to click shows, then click the top bar, then look through an incredibly long list of libraries spread across multiple servers, find the one i want and hit it.
People with more libraries than me must really be having a horrible time.

And people these days always feel change is necessary. Sort of like people these days feel the need to invalidate other’s opinions, as if to suggest they are easily offended by another’s post to which it isn’t even directed. I’m all for your opinion to an opinion, but makes you no more right or wrong than the OP.
You’re right about one thing though, they paid for software “as is” as in, the way it behaved and functioned at the time of purchase, with the hopes it would not deviate, functionally, much if at all. They paid for their right to opinion and voice. Don’t like it? Move TF along. It’s quite simple really.
This isn’t the first time they’ve obfuscated the UI. I still use Plex Classic on Roku, it is what keeps me a customer. The moment it ceases working, I’d just much rather go back to use an old XBMC on a HTPC, then simply tell family (or friends) they’re assed out. Of course, it is via that very action that Plex has received additional paying customers (i.e. customer acquisition). It would behoove Plex to stop fixing what isn’t broken and begin fixing what is.
And BTW, those elements of yours were re-arranged to the outside of the toaster. Enjoy your dry crouton bread buddy.
And here I loved it. While it was not on my personal priority list, I thought it s pretty neat.
Guess everyone is different.
Changed the review to the 1 star… Have absolutely no understating of the latest
update… Really?! Expected it the least from this app. Manager of the
mobile devision has absolutely no clue of what is Plex about! I have paid
for the lifetime plex pass and this update is the most frustrating thing
since Tobey Maguire lost Spider-Man role… You were doing a great job!
Simply continue improving the library controls and metadata integration…
We are mostly here advanced users not kids amazed by big posters or what
happens 3 years ago this day… Bring more options not nostalgia…
Another plex pass user vote for roll it back. The new version is so buggy the app crashes even when I’m not using it. I don’t think I have been able to watch a single video on my phone without a playback failure across 4 different servers on my $900 phone.
The new UI is like Windows 8. Very different woth a focus on appearance that ultimately doesn’t work as well and fails at improving user experience. But at least Windows 8 crashed less.

Could not agree more with this sentiment. The new UI makes browsing multiple libraries cumbersome.

I’d guess you pobably have access to 1 Server with 2 folders 1 for movies 1 for TV shows. I persoanally have access to 4 servers and 28 libraries. The old UI was very organized so content was easy to navigate to accross those multiple libraries.
I am with many of you here regarding the new UI. I have monitored this thread today in hopes to see a response from the Plex development team but I have not seen anything. While I am usually one of the first to try new things including betas etc, the Plex team has always seemed to make changes for good reason and usually maintained an intuitive UI experience. I just do not see this what so ever in this drastic change. But more concerning is that there has been no response from the plex team.
I could go on and list the 1000 things I don’t like about the changes. But I think the plex team already has a good idea, I am just curious as to why no response and whats the end game. The puppy dog has always been pretty reliable, did a cat lure him away?
Every update this same song and dance
There is definitely small changes needed to round out the new apps…but the customization allowed is a net positive…and the combination of servers for those of us who use multiples
Can we seriously stop one second…rationally state our objections…and keep the insulting commentary at least civil?

You would be hard pressed to find ANY software written that has not changed in some way during the course of it’s life. If you find one that hasn’t, just wait. There will always be detractors and supporters in any case.
Buying a piece of software does not confer on the user the rights to now determine the business course of the company. You purchase it as is, if you don’t like it do not use it. If you do want to influence the course of the company, buy the company, or buy shares in the company.
While some are arguing semantics and opinions, here are some of us unable to use the new software AT ALL. As in: the only truly important thing (arguably) about Plex is being able to play content right? I’m not able to unless I logout and back in - which means all customizations are lost again and again. Note 8 user, unrooted, unmodded, standard North American model. Hardly an obscure phone!
Can we at least have someone from Plex acknowledge the ones that posted a REAL problem both in this board and the Android one? Why is the staff MIA again?

This maybe true for a few regulars, but I personally have never complained about the UI. With that said, beyond this thread, I don’t think I have ever seen such immediate negative response in the play store towards the plex app all at once. When I updated and tried to put a kids video on for my god daughter and found everything changed and was not able to do so in a timely manner I gave up until she went home. I then played with it afterwards and after 20 minutes of messing around with it and not able to get back just to my main family server and Kids Videos, I went to check for feed back. I started in the play store and found many more negative responses there than here. So I do not think this is the norm. I have been part of plex for a long, long time and I don’t ever remember a time where there was such a drastic change in the UI that prompted so much unhappy posts.
Why are we not seeing any comments from the developers? Maybe there is a bigger plan… maybe not, but it would be nice to get their feedback.
New UI is horrible! Please go back to previous layout. I downgraded back to 6x. 7x unusable.
@Stevenson-Price @hsousa I am tagging you two because you both put updates into the release announcements for the version of Plex APP that this discussion concerns.
Do either of you have any comments? Some official voice regarding this matter would be appreciated.
Thanks
This is awful. dumping everything into buckets and forcing us to do multiple selects to switch libraries is not my idea of better.
Not only is the new ui a disorganized mess, now live tv just keeps spitting me back to the plex websites dvr info page. I’m really close to saying goodby plexpass, hello emby.
The new interface is horrible. I have my material organized by folders. Folders is the only way I’m interested in sorting through them. It took me 10 minutes in this new update to find some kind of folder view, and I’m not sure I could find it again. Constant changes in the UI every few weeks or months, continued hostility to users in the design. I can’t see titles of shows anymore beyond a few characters, which are all the same for the same series (that change happened a few updates ago). It’s as if someone has been let loose on the UI with the instruction, “Do what you think is cool - don’t worry about people being able to use it.”
I’m also a paying customer, and I’m extremely close to dumping Plex.
While the OP, and many others, are incredibly rude, I agree-in spirit. This is a very poor update on Android. It crashes constantly and is essentially unusable, and I haven’t even started learning the new UI because of it, because every other tap on the UI causes it to crash.
I appreciate that there’s probably some reason behind the seeming madness, but it’s-by far-the least stable version I’ve had on my phone in a long, long time.
This is just horrible… I have 7 family members all telling me Plex is broken… I had a look myself and after 10 minutes of trying to find my media it ended in complete frustration I couldn’t agree more! it’s a complete mess now! I personally love an update on all my software and look forward to new features but this feels like a huge backward step
well done @mikeschr for finding the folder view, I still haven’t and that is the only way I can find my sport libraries! utter mess!
