Root directory on QNAP when setup new library

Server Version#: 1.20.3.3421
Player Version#:

Dear Community,
after having trouble with my Plex server I finally ended up installing everything new including data backup. Hell of work and time. Even I had a good support here in this forum I needed a new install.

Now after having installed everything new I have the problem after several databses have been created Plex now doesnt show the root directory anymore if I want to add a new database. See screenshot.

It goes automatically into the /mnt/HDA_ROOT directory. Before it shows simply the root where I could select the share directory and choose my directory of wish. Now I dont get that. Do you have any idea why is it? And how can I change that? Is it possible to change? Or do I have to enter the path manually?

I think first of all you mean a new libary instead of database.

If so this dialog just shows the first Folder. As far as I remember it should point to /shares/ instead of /mnt/.

When you change this, you’ll see your shares. On my setup I’ve a volume Video and folders for movies etc. - so the path is /shares/Video/Movies

(I’ve typed the whole path, not used the select-box.)

Hi,
yes, sorry library not database. Very strange, now it show the root directory again. No clue why this happended.
But I have another problem right now. Only 1 TV-Show was scanned with English instead of German Epsiode names and descriptions.
Do you have any idea why?

The language is set via libary-options as for as I know. What are your settings here?

German. Checked it several times. 30 TV-Shows are scanned in German but 1 is in English?

You can check this thread:

Maybe the naming scheme for that one show is different? Does thetvdb.com show german data?

Sure, it was before my whole new setup also shown in German.
Maybe I should rename the folder or move it to somewhere else and then back, so Plex scannes it new and maybe correct this time?

Please show the contents of the guid=... property from the Plex XML info of one of the episodes of that show.

Hi,

here:

guid="com.plexapp.agents.thetvdb://70874/1/1?lang=en" parentGuid="com.plexapp.agents.thetvdb://70874/1?lang=en" grandparentGuid="com.plexapp.agents.thetvdb://70874?lang=en"

This tells you that the show has been matched with the language selection set to English.
Go to the top level of that show, by clicking on the show’s title.
Then select Fix Match from the ellipsis ⋮
then ‘Search Options’
and set the agent and the language selector to German in there.
Then click on the search result (even if it’s shown with english title).

OK. Plex is now doing something. Meanwhile I checked again when I want to create a new library. Now Plex shows me again a diferent folder structure and no root directory.

And the show is still in english

If I may jump in ?

  1. Where did you create the shared folder containing the media?

  2. If you created it on DataVol1 – Then you look under CACHEDEV1_DATA

  3. If you created it on DataVol2 - Then you look under CACHEDEV2_DATA

The concept of a ‘root’ directory on QNAP is something to forget.
The operating system and all internal files are there

All your data files (media) are stored on CACHEDEVx_DATA volumes.

I have now deleted the TV Show library and created again.
But as seen above I had to manually write my folder path as root is still not shown. I will see if it is now still in English after the new creation.

Hi ChuckPa,
it is in both. Movies and Shows are stored in CACHDEV1_DATA and Music in CACHDEV2_DATA. But why is it shown when it first is installed with root???
All my libraries are with the path /share/Movies or /share/TV-Series or /share/Concerts. This I could select because of the root directory was shown. Why is Plex giving me a choice of path from my directy and not the full folder tree as on first start up?

What is causing you to think the names start with / please?

FileStation always hides the data volume (CACHEDEV) part. Could that be the confusion?

If not, can you screenshot the region and show me?

I am assuming QNAP changed something at some point to use the CACHEDEV1_DATA folder. I noticed sometime back when it seemed to change after an OS upgrade.

Some of my older libraries look like this:

The CACHEDEV folder is one I added most recent (still a while ago though). The scanning still works on all folders, so I don’t know what QTS is doing behind the scenes. I just know I can’t browse the folders anymore without going through CACHEDEV now.

I would do a screenshot but I cant see the root anymore in Plex when adding a library.
As you can see above whats Plex showing me when I want to add a folder. It goes automatically into /mnt/boot_config. After new installation of Plex in the Path field it is written / below with the folder tree you can see root and a bunch of other folders.
Now it is not shown anymore. But where is connection with Filestation? Filestation for sure only shows the shared folders.

AH ok. So I am not the only one with this issue that there is not a really consitency of the folder tree in plex. Thanks for sharing!

By the way is it normal that Plex shows several times an error while scanning a new library?

What does that error say when translated to english?
