I’m taking this case as a “Lesson Learned” for me.

I’ve already opened up a discussion about changing the name of the Plex share to PlexData so it’s more clear.

If I get no objections, I’ll do these things

  1. BIG announcement about the change
  2. Automatically migrate the Plex share to PlexData for you. I will detect and handle any collisions with myself.
  3. After I migrate the Plex share to PlexData, I will create a hidden and locked share to avoid accidental detection in the future.

If you or anyone has any ideas on how to better do this, please speak up. All input is good input.

Don’t, the only lesson learnt is for me to not have been a numpty. I’d literally just misunderstood it by name.

How regular an issue even is it - as in does it warrant a change that will affect all users to this degree - are you placing limits on how far someone with more skills can manage/customise with the tool, I guess? If it is, could a reword to Plex Program Data with no lockdown work?

My point here is really simple: You’re not the first and most certainly won’t be the last. It’s an easy mistake to make in the absence of an interactive installation program (Linux fails on that part)

I wrote that thing (installer) so it does fall on me to do something about it.

If the Engineering and Product teams approve, I’ll handle everything automatically.
I’ll even take the preventative step to include a “no files here please” in a few languages (English, French, Spanish, etc)

I never liked it as it is now but is already way better than when I took over (which was original work).
I hope this next step puts us in a good place for a long time to come.
