Version 1.19.1.2645 Server broke Samsung access

Server Version#: 1.19.1.2645
Player Version#:2.013

The latest version of PMS has broken access for my 2015 Samsung TV (H8000 series). If I revert to PMS Version 1.19.1.2630, then the access from the TV to the Server is fine.

I have tried the latest “official” V2.012 and the sideloaded V2.013 versions of the Samsung app, as kindly provided by Orca.

I would really appreciate if a PMS update could be released to repair this regression. Please note that I really do not have money to throw at this problem at this time. I cannot afford a new TV and it would be stupid to buy additional hardware to address this regression error by the PMS programmers.

Alternately, @Orca could possibly so kind as to once again release a version to fix the regression problem in PMS Version 1.19.1.2645

Are you accessing your server in the local network or remotely?

Local mode

Do you require separate user accounts, to restrict access to a part of your media?
If you don’t, try disabling the requirement to authenticate for your tv.
If you put the IP address of your TV device into
Settings - Server - Network - ‘Show Advanced’ - “List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth”
it will no longer be required to provide authentication, which may ease the issues a bit.

Make sure that you aren’t requiring ‘Secure Connections’. Set them to ‘preferred’.
Restart the server after making changes to the server configuration.

There is an advanced preference in the Orca app to disable encryption/secure connections. Try toggling this.

Settings/Network

Make sure that Secure connections is not set to req. but to preferred
Make sure that Disable weak TLS versions is not selected

If changing above settings, you must restart PMS

And if you still have errors, then on your Samsung app, under preferences/general, enable Send debug to PMS

Yes, I forgot about this new option. This needs to be off, if you still want to use the old Orca client.
(no, it won’t unfortunately be updated anymore)

Thanks to both of you. The “Securer connections” setting to “Preferred” did the trick. I really do appreciate your help.

I don’t mind if the old @Orca TV app never gets updated, because it is a great app and it works well. Please do not make changes to the PMS software that will negatively impact the Orca app.

Hello,

Although this topic is specifically for version 1.19.1.2645, the same problem also occurs with beta version 1.19.2.2673.

Unfortunately, setting the Secure connections to ‘Preferred’ and leaving the ‘Disable weak TLS versions’ box unticked does not work for version 1.19.2.2673.

I had to change the ‘Server update Channel’ to ‘Public’, roll back my PMS and perform a server update to 1.19.1.2645.

Just thought it would be helpful to let anyone else know for future fixes or for guidance on how to resolve if they had their PMS update channel set to ‘Beta’ :slightly_smiling_face:

Can someone let me know if/when this gets resolved, as I’m having to keep my server held back now on this version.

What were the changes that have caused this bug?

Stu

I get the same issue with 1.19.2.2673. Setting the Secure connections to ‘Preferred’ and leaving the ‘Disable weak TLS versions’ box unticked does not work.

This is both the same for my Windows & Debian server

Snap.

After updating to 1.19.2.2673 (Beta) one of my users said the Plex app (2.012) on their Samsung TV just stopped working. They couldn’t even navigate the menu or use any of the coloured buttons etc.

Rolled my PMS back to 1.19.1.2645 and it’s working fine.

In the Plex App on the Samsung TV, disable secure connections if enabled

Wasn’t enabled, so the problem persists

For the Beta version of 1.19.2.2673 Server the issue is with the older TV’s (pre-Tizen) and I have tried the Server side settings (Preferred and Disable weak TLS unchecked) do not resolve the problem. The Plex App side setting to ensure secure connections are not enabled also does not resolve the problem.

The client app just hangs locked up. I have confirmed that the Plex App for Windows and the Plex App for the newer Samsung TV’s does continue to work correctly. As this is a Beta version hopefully the newly introduced bugcan be resolved prior to releasing the next formal server release.

Ok, so I managed a work around this morning. Follow the steps below -

Check first to see if you are running PMS version 1.19.1.2645 (Public) or version 1.19.2.2673 (Beta). If the latter, follow the steps below.

Unfortunately, the instructions given above to set the Secure connections to ‘Preferred’ and leaving the ‘Disable weak TLS versions’ box unticked does not work for version 1.19.2.2673.

First I had to change the ‘Server update Channel’ in PMS Settings/General to ‘Public’, roll back my PMS and perform a server update to 1.19.1.2645.
You will find previous versions of PMS in ‘C:\Users\ * YOURNAME *\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Updates’. You will need to allow to show hidden files and folders to access AppData.

You need to then uninstall PMS from your PC using Control Panel/Programs/Uninstall Program. DON’T WORRY, you will not lose your settings or media! Do not use any other program but your Windows built in ‘Uninstall Program’ to uninstall and DO NOT use a registry cleaner like CCleaner to clean the registry.

Once uninstalled and with a previous PMS update in ‘C:\Users\ * YOURNAME *\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Updates’, install Plex. Once installed restart your PC. This is not necessary, but just to be safe, I did.
Once booted up, open PMS and update PMS to 1.19.1.2645 (Public - Make sure you are not installing the Beta version or you’ll be back to square one).

Make sure to set the Secure connections to ‘Preferred’ and leaving the ‘Disable weak TLS versions’ box unticked.

Test your Samsung TV Plex Orca app and it SHOULD now work.

Hope this helps! It worked for me :slightly_smiling_face:

@rickio01 Many thanks. Above instructions worked perfectly for my 6 Samsung TV’s around the house. :grinning:

Hi All!
Thank you @rickio01 for this!

But…I am running a second pms on linux seedbox so i can´t do this procedure. Is there another option?

This will be fixed in future releases?

THX,
Braz.

I have found a partial get around.
From another device stream to the ‘‘locked up’’ player on the tv.

If it doesnt start playing , disconnect , then reconnect again.
On the TV press ‘‘stop play’’
Full controls are now available on the tv app.

Tested 4 times this morning, it can be a little hit or miss , but does mean once you get it working, the person using the tv can be back in control again.

I get that the old app can’t be supported forever and all, but, I wish to [insert deity here] that @Orca would at least deobfuscate the JavaScript in the package so we as a community can keep it updated.

At the end of the day, there’s nothing “special” about it. It looks like mostly just a bunch of authenticated API calls. It’d just be a nightmare to start from scratch…
