Server Version#:1.43.3.10828-720010828
Player Version#:5.94.1 for Samsung
I have a Synology DS118 and til I updated the Server everything was fine. In the Client DirectStram was mandatory, because my NAS is not capable of transcoding in realtime,
I saw this topic with the same problem but based on a windwos server:
It seems to me, that the solution in this case is removing check the speed and then do a transcoding on the PC. Well, on a Synology NAS this is no possible.
I deinstalled the Client, Reinstalled. Everything works fine with my two FireTV Sticks but not on the Samsung Samsung Neo QLED 4K QN85D 2024.
I must also say, that my Samsung made also a Software-Update, but my Samsung from 2018 has now the same problem and there was no update. It seems, that Samsung and DirectPlay is now broken in my case.
By the way, when I make DirectPlay mandatory, the error shown, that the format is not supported by the TV, which is not correct. I tried old movies that before worked.
Go to the Samsung website and check the supported file formats for your model of TV, then make sure your files comply with those formats.
If you have any doubts, then always use video files with the following format, H.264 (AVC)/AAC/MP4 as this is the most supported format across the most number of devices.
In general, the H.264 (AVC)/AAC/MP4 format does NOT require any transcoding at all and Plex will only transcode such files if you have a poor network connection.
The Fire TV generally supports many more formats than a lot of TVs which helps it play many more files than your TV can on it’s own.
I recommend using Handbrake to re-encode any files that do NOT comply with the supported formats of your TV or FireTV.
Yes I know this and I have transformation at any file that worked before. Both Samsung TV cause now transcoding after updating the server. I added the log file, maybe it helps to find the reason.
OK, I saw in the Logs that he thinks it is WAN. I don’t knwo, why this problems appears now, because it worked for a long time. The solution was to allow insecure connection always. Now it works.
often it is the Audio format that is the problem. The Samsung tv support most all video formats, but at more limited for audio, like True-HD, DV (Dolby Vision), DTS.
I use the Shield as player and still have issues with True-HD often foring a full transcode of the video instead of just the audio.
Yes, old DTS movies I have to look at Fire TV. But as mentioned, problem solved, Client was in WAN mode. Changed setting for secure connection at the client and then it worked again.
Yes that is quite true and is one reason I spoke about the file format and NOT just individual codecs.
When dealing with Plex, even the file container (mp4, mkv, mov, etc.) can play a role in poor playback, especially if it is not written correctly or damaged in some way (missing data for example).
Of course, there are many other factors that may play a role also, but you have to start somewhere … lol
@ste6667 I am glad you were able to narrow down the problem and solve it, well done.
