Hey, my DLNA Plex server perfectly works on my Android devices (I have a Phillips 2022 TV and a Shield Pro) but nearly every file I tried to play through the DLNA access of my Samsung QN95B were not able to be opened, although they work when going through the direct USB access of the tv
Have you considered using the native Plex client instead of running media through a DLNA app?
As I mentioned in another topic, there is a tremendous issue on the Plex native app for Tizen TVs of 2022 as it doesn’t allow the user to change the sharpness setting while playing any 4K video (to be clear, we can scroll through the sharpness slider, but unfortunately this has no effect on 4K videos played with Plex, although it works on 4K videos played via USB and on HD videos played with Plex).
But as loading all my 4K videos in a USB hardware then plugging it to the TV is bothering, I’d like to play these videos through the DLNA feature as this later uses the native Samsung player instead of the Plex app one.
DLNA as such is a rather plain approach when it comes to offering an index and streaming items as they are by the video app. Some platforms restrict playback capabilities depending on use cases, e.g. which combination of tracks/codecs are supported while streaming vs. playback from USB.
You could have a look if/how the DLNA access works using a different DLNA client (e.g. VLC).
Generally there’s very little you can do.
Unfortunately VLC is not available on the App Store of Samsung TVs, but as I said, my DLNA configuration works fine with my Shield connected to the TV. However I’d prefer using the native player of my TV
The Plex DLNA server is awful in my experience. It seems beholden to the same profiles the Plex app uses, so it has a habit of just refusing to play files because it thinks the player can’t handle it without transcoding.
Sometimes it may be right. But often it’s not, and it won’t let you find out for yourself.
I did try and dabble with editing those profiles, but it’s very hard to do as the documentation is non-existant.
Use any other DLNA server. e.g. If I use my Synology built-in DLNA server I can play numerous files the Plex DLNA server was blocking on the same QN95B TV as you.
Ok, I’ll try, thanks, but I’m so used to Plex!
However the best solution would actually be to correct the issue that forbids users to add sharpness on 4K videos on the native Plex app ![]()
