Samsung Plex App 5.2.1 broke Playback completely on 2016 Smart TV

so today i was greeted by the new plex app on my samsung tv, version 5.2.1.

this app version is no longer able to playback any kind of file whatsoever. it always crashes with “playback error: an unexpected playback problem occured”

file format doesn’t matter, i literally tried dozens of items. when i went to bed yesterday, everything worked fine with the prior version. other clients (chrome / android) are still working as usual.

disabling direct play / direct stream changes nothing. anyone esle experiencing this issue?

after some more reinstalling and tinkering i fixed it:

the “max h.264 level” was by default set to “4.1 (recommended)”

after setting it to “none” everything works again. i don’t know if this is intended behaviour but there you go.
