Samsung TV - v2.012 - Resume won't work anymore

No, I don’t think I will. Thanks for the suggestion. Why start another thread discussing a (potentially) new issue identified for an app version everyone seems to be aware has issues with the current server version? It seems pretty related to me…

Oh and before anybody spouts the “Samsung won’t let us fix it” line… has anybody asked them?

Scuffers is the only one making sense here. This is not an OS they stopped supporting 10 years ago. If the answer is a definitive no, then so be it.

I’m in.

Couldn’t agree more. I was drawn to Plex because of the native Smart TV app. I had no idea it was not developed by Plex themselves. It has a Plex logo and looks for all intents and purposes like an official product.

Interestingly, that’s how I found Plex, when I brought my first Smart-Hub Samsung I found it in the app list, and used it to replace my existing Windows media Centre setup.

Based on our path to Plex, I wonder how many more came to Plex via this route?

Begs the question, how much does Plex owe Orca for his app introducing people to Plex?

The least they can do is pick up his batton…

… and now resume doesn’t work for me either.

I just tested a 4k HVEC tv show on (explicit selected) direct play on my JS8090. Playback was fine.

Guess it was a false positive reagarding the playback ability. The tested media file was started and stopped with a previous pms version.

With the language selection gone and missing resume marks, it is time to settle for a new client (cry).

I wish Orca would have open sourced the code or at least had handed it over to a developer of his trust.

Is Orca available in general?

Generally this sounds like not much work that needs to be done.
Definitely up for any kind of donation that might help.

Btw, the companion functionality seems busted as well, i tried controlling the smart TV app with the browser and it does not work anymore when it used to.

Yeah, I did asked him, but he was not willing to anyone jump on board. This is (was?) the hobby of him and he would like to keep it like this. I do understand that, I really do. But if you are not able to continue, you should let someone else do. If there is someone. But this is not the case, unfortunately.

So, yes his Plex client stays unsupported and unmaintained. Time to buy an external box where official client is available. :frowning:

That’s a shame (and actually comes across as selfish?)

Either way, it’s time to Plex to step up to the plate and develop their own app.

Speaking personally, I will no longer be updating Plex server until there’s a resolution to this, so as far as I am concerned, Plex’s development resources on PMS are wasted until they resolve the client issues, that should be their priority.

This app actualy made me buy Samsung TVs (C650, F6500, F7090, JS8090) for a long time now… I never looked for other TVs, just because of this app. It is still one of the few players (probably THE player) that is actualy able to have enjoyable 3D playback (even 3D-MVC!)

I fully agree that it is a pitty that Orca is not up to it, to hand over the torch to someone else that maintains his legacy (=keeps it alive). Though, it is his brain child and as such, he is free to do whatever he likes with it. Does this make me happy? No, it does not! Can I understand him? Yes, I do!

Now back to topic. Actualy the behavior of the client isn’t that much different for me, then it was before. Some media items don’t allow resume, others do. I can’t say if the rate of not resumable media items changed. Though, not resumable media items existed before the update as well, which usualy is related to broken/corruption files of any sorts.

marvelous news!

Indeed.

Sounds like they will patch this specific problem, however, it does nothing for the longer-term issue of un-supported platforms.

Seems to me that Plex are more interested in getting others to do the app development rather than doing them directly, I can see the attraction, but it’s a bit of a chicken and egg, if you want your platform to grow, you need to build the playing field for them to come to, ie, support the majority of the platforms people have.

@dane22 @Scuffers1

I had to roll back to 1.15.2.793 and yes its confirmed working again for my samsung TV’s

I have 8 people on their samsung TV’s with my server, and this is annoying that Plex isnt developing this app, or is breaking it while upgrading their server.

I havent had a solid update to plex in the last 3 releases without breaking things, and its getting a bit frusturating the QC is not really paying attention.

I wont be updating unless this is confirmed resolved

App was developed by a 3.Party (Orca), and is no longer maintained.

There’s a reason it’s called 3.Party, and Plex never test against 3.Party

Damn, makes sense… well this is a shame, so basically it’s just going to be about time that the Samsung app doesnt work with newer versions of plex… which would create an issue for a lot of users.

I think a significant amount of people use the Samsung app,

Do the newer Samsung TV,s use a different app?

Yes, and developed by Plex

so 2015+ models are safe

I’m sceptical about this, many have tried with that plex version and resume doesnt work.

Essentially play a show, leave and come back and you wont get a popup to ask if u want to resume with the latest plex and Samsung app

Correct, but if you play on another player than Sammy or OPHT, and stop in the middle, then resume will work on those two, and this might be what tricked @kopfpilot ?

That’s wholy missing the point (and I think you know that!)

this update also knocked out a whole host of other applications, (read this thread)

Like I wrote, resume still works for some media items, and does not for others. Though, these are all local playbacks. I have no idea whether remote playbacks behave different. The last days I just used my F series tv in the bedroom with the samsung smarthub app and this is what I experience with it.

Huh, and nope

If you looked carefully, you would have noticed, that I’m active in that thread, and I stand by my word here!

Resume affected Orca’s Samsung Client for Non-Titzen OS, as well as all OPHT based players.

I fail to see anybudy else mentioning resume error on other clients, or?
