I own a Samsung UN65H7150 smart TV and it looks like I will be rolling back to version 1.15.2.793 and probably not updating for a very long time. The current version of Plex will not let me resume programs on my TV.
On another note over a year ago I also lost the functionality to delete programs from the TV and I always have to go back to the desktop to delete programs once I have watched them (Note there is a fix for this problem but you have to side load the fix onto the TV and my TV can’t do that).
What I am saying is the functionality of the Samsung Plex app continues to decrease as new updates appear.
I do find it hard to believe that “with over 20% market share, Samsung has been the largest TV manufacturer since 2006.” is not supported. I understand that the main developer for the Samsung Plex App no longer can physically do updates. I also understand that I do not know all the intricacies of keeping the app up to date, but it is hard to understand that the largest manufacturer of TV’s in the world is not supported by Plex directly.
I love Plex and will continue to use it and thanks for the product, I have read this whole thread and understand most of what I am saying has been said before but I just wanted to add my two cents.
As I already said, Plex has been supporting Samsung as a platform since Titzen OS was developed, 2015 +
They haven’t got an app for pre-Titzen, since Orca was maintaining that.
Even if somebody took over that client, it’s not likely that it could get updated on the Samsung AppStore for all formerly supported TV’s.
Last update Orca made was all most a year ago, and when doing so, Orca posted, that he had trouble to get Samsung to accept for TV’s before 2013, since Samsung also wants to focus on apps for newer models
Update: Just checked my TV and it was made in 2015 just before Tizen came out. So at least I know why there are no updates to apps or no new apps ever added. I guess TV’s are like phones and supposed to be thrown out every few years. Thanks Samsung. Guess I see a Roku in my near future.
Maybe it is time to try the other side of things and explain how popular and how many people use Plex on their TV’s. I will write them and ask for an explanation. Thanks.
And there we have it, stuff you if you have an older (>2 years) Samsung TV
What kind of attitude is that?
Do yourself a favour and take a step back.
Edit (as you have conveniently closed the thread!)
2 years is because Samsung were still selling non-Tizen sets 2 years ago (I brought one).
Yes, there is an overlap of Tizen sets, so what?
Back to the point, when are you going to stop shrilling for Plex? they are quite capable of answering these questions themselves directly (as Elan has on the other thread), unless of course, you have some specific Plex-sources statement to make.
equal to 2015- which in my math doesn’t compute, or?
Also do note, that I never ever expressed my own feelings here, but for your info, I have 5 TV’s running on Orca’s wonderful client!
As such, I too feel the pain, but as said, simply tried to explain to you what might impact this, but apparently failed to get through to you.
When all above is said though, OP had his answer, and Plex did fix code in PMS, and now knows about this, so OP’s problem is solved, so closing this, before we have a run-away and a scope creep
