Saturday Night Live not recording

I am disappointing again this morning. Only the first (10pm) airing was recorded as usual. The Schedule thinks it was the second one. image
Last night after 11:30, this screen had the red dot next to the 2nd one as if it was actually recording it, but it turns out not the case. @jzolezzi is there someone from PLEX who can take a look at this problem that we are having? I am running server Version 1.18.6.2350 on My Cloud Home.

Mine recorded fine again last night. Something that does happen, that is unintuitive, is that it stores both recordings as two versions of the same episode.

When I look at this week’s episode, you can see that the screen capture used for the thumbnail is from the rerun, even though the details show the current episode:

Episode

But if you select the More (three dots) menu, and “Play Version…”:

Dots

It shows that there are two versions of that episode available:

Versions

The second version is the one I want to watch.

Note: See how the version that I do want is lower resolution? Maybe it now keeps this version because I unchecked this box in the recording options:

Lower Resolution

I don’t know.

No success this week either. But SNL was a rerun, so maybe that was the problem there. Last week I already deleted the 10pm version before getting the chance to look at the Play Version option. This week there is no Play version option. @Bymatty I don’t know how to get these problems addressed. If there was a phone number or issue tracker, that would be nice, but I am not aware of it. I tried to bring in @jzolezzi who I saw on another thread, but I see no response yet. I have a few other problems with PLEX that I have been having for several years, but I have not got around to entering here. PLEX cannot play on either of my Rokus and barely on the web page due to buffering. It only works on my phone, 8" table, and Samsung DVD player. I get the feeling that PLEX will stop supporting the Samsung at some point. I no longer rewinds at all or fast forwards more than 2x there. If it gets to the point that I can only watch on a small screen, I will have to find a different product if the other problems are not fixed. I have enjoyed PLEX for many years, but don’t want a system that I have to invest a lot of time to fix its problems.

Just to add some Oompf to the issue: this happens to me, too, ever since the “new” plex programming version came into effect. It keeps recording the vintage episode, even though I have set the DVR to record HD Only. Highly frustrating.
I do hope someone will post an actual solution, instead of just more log requests.

I’ll jump in here as I’m having the same issue. This is REALLY frustrating. The DVR functionality of PLEX is one of the most confusing I have ever seen. They really need to put some resources on this. I’m a long time Plex user, but never had to really push on support. How do we do this? The DVR really not up to par and that is very unfortunate. :frowning:

Ok, this is definitely a bug in the new guide. Looking at my recordings for tomorrow, it shows two episodes of SLN comming up. One at 10-11 (this is a repeate as stated in the description as well) and one at 11:30 - 1:03am. The problem is that the 10:00 one is flagged as ‘NEW’. The actual new one is not. Should not matter though because I have it set to record new and old ones. How do we report this? I do not see any way to send bugs or trouble tickets to Plex. That is crazy.

I changed the Airings to “New and Repeat Airings” and it it did successfully record both. I can see in the file system one is in Season 46 folder and the other is in Season 2021. However when I look at the “Recently Added TV” it only shows one. When I select that, it then shows both episodes. It thinks the 11:30 1.5 hour airing has already been watched. I assume this is because it is a rerun. I suppose that I will have to wait until the new Fall season to see if that changes. I also don’t see the Play Version menu item like @tendiamonds does.

Last night I got the early show but not the late show. I’m only interested in the new episodes, so I don’t care that it didn’t work, just so long as it does for the next new one. The whole thing is a mystery to me at this point.

What browser are you using? Firefox has this recently added setting, which if not disabled will force the browser to show schedule times in UTC, not local time.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1247616

I ran the “new Date().toString()” and it shows the correct time for my time zone. It looks to me that the time Plex is using must be in UTC.

Well, only recorded the repeat. This is REALLY disappointing. Also, really frustrating. Why is there no recording log in the interface? Even my crappy cable box had the recording history and what was recorded, deleted or not recorded and the reason why. This is just a black box. Really underwhelming. The Plex UI is also really confusing. Once you are on an episode it is extremely difficult to get back to the listing of all the episodes. There is a LONG WAY to go if they ever think this will be something more main stream.

For a recording log, look under Live TV & DVR → DVR SCHEDULE. Then change Calendar View to Agenda View. You can view what is scheduled for today and beyond, but also scroll up to yesterday and before. If an episode is still available there, then it will also show a button to play it.

@tonydarst , that is interesting. So, I see both in that view, but the old one only has the play icon. Even though the new one says it was recorded… :frowning:

I have seen the same thing @chadgronbach. That is how mine looked for several weeks in a row (except for last week when it recorded both after I changed it to New and Repeat Airings). It is all part of this problem within Plex and SNL. I don’t know if it has any problems with other shows. I wish an employee would acknowledge the problem. Early on, I had the feeling that Plex was a labor of love for the developers. There was no charge for it and they provided it as is with the possibility of fixes and features when they got around to it. I was fine with that. Now that I paid for the Plex Pass, I assumed that it is more of a business transaction.

@tonydarst , I agree with you 100%. I get this is not a multi billion dollar company, but if you pay for it, there should be SOME way to get in touch with them! I’ve been using PLEX for years and been annoyed about many things, but most of them were more of an opinion of how I think things should work. This however is a BUG and there seems to be NO WAY to get attention to it. Very disappointing. I guess, I’ll go on the search once again for DVR solution. Oh, how I miss my Microsoft Media Center…

It appears to have recorded both last night. But only one shows, but the Play Version menu does show two: image

I selected one of these on the Roku and saw the 10 pm showing. Then I tried the other one and it showed the 11:30 one that I wanted. But as I tried to jump ahead while watching, it switched back to the 10 pm version. I was able to watch the rest of it on my Android phone.

The file system shows the files in separate season folders and different sizes.

The Get Info shows this:

I am also having this same issue.

I still only get the first episode (the repeat) recording. ‘get info’ only shows one show.

Hey Plex people!!! Can you check your guide provider or your code?

Thanks.

I don’t know if this helps, but I checked the guide on my FIOS cable box and it shows ‘NEW’ for the upcoming 10pm airing and ‘LIVE’ for the 11:30 airing.
