Is “Scan Library Files” available as an option in the new version? I use that a lot in the existing app.
It’s not.
The most convenient way to do this with the mobile apps is probably using Plex Dash.
I had no idea that even existed. Doesn’t matter to me now that it’s not in the new app. It’s exactly what I was looking for and doesn’t bother me that it’s a few key clicks away.
Thank you very much.
Its not, its convenient to do this in the same app as before.
Agreed. Not sure how it could possibly be “more” convenient to have to use something I’ve never heard of before vs. being able to do it right in the app I’ve always used, and that I already have.
Btw, this is implemented in the new app now.
Making the Plex Dash app completely pointless now?
What specifically is implemented and in which app?
The option to scan for library updates had been added to the new experience app approx. 2 weeks ago.
No. Just 2 features which are redundant between the two apps.
Where? I just was updated to the new app today and the fact that I can’t find it is the whole reason I came here, and see that it’s not in the app. If it’s there, it’s certainly very well hidden.
When in the Libraries tab, long-press the library title/selector to find the Scan Library Files action.
Alternatively you can long-press the Libraries tab and click the ︙ to open a library’s context menu (which will show the same commands).
How incredibly unintuitive. Thank you for telling me, but I shouldn’t have to come here and have it explained in order to figure out something that was easily accessible before.
Wasn’t it in the library’s context menu before too?
Where else did you look / search for it?
Now that I can’t access the old app, I can’t tell you where it was. I was so used to it that I just went there via muscle memory. I can tell you I didn’t have to get there via any “long press” hidden menu nonsense, though. The menu was quite obvious before.
Everything that we used to rely on daily is now hidden several layers deeper in context menu’s. It’s miserable. Hopefully with enough feedback they will roll some of these changes back, but they seem intent to humiliate anyone who disagrees with the current approach. Many people are calling it a disgraceful way to develop a product.

Exactly this. It’s Developer-itis. It’s obvious to them, so they assume it’s obvious to everyone, when it’s not. Back in my day, we used to actually test software, on folks who weren’t developers, for this very reason. Seems those days are gone.
Yep exactly. The way we are being talked down to is disgraceful, and don’t any of us dare upset the Dear Leaders for fear of retribution. I see people on other forums expressing the same viewpoint. The users no longer matter to this company’s management team.
Meanwhile, people are being fooled into buying plex passes they do not need because of poorly worded and improperly timed emails. The user base is growing very suspicious. I can only wonder what the investors think about it. This is not something you want to see after investing millions of dollars into backing a team of executives.
It would be nice if you could also scan all libraries at once by press and hold the button “All Libraries.”
BTW:
I know this is not the best place but in German please change the word “Durchblättern” to something else (like “Durchsuchen” oder “Einlesen”).
“Durchblättern” is better translated to the english “flip over” (some pages).
Thanks for sharing… looks like they accidentally used the translation for the browse tab/section… that’s definitely not the translation for scanning library files.
@tom80H
As you are German speaking (like me)
): If you have a moment take a closer look to some of the translations. There is still a bit of work for the developers to do:
- on a movie: type on subtitles and “Subtitles” it is wrongly in English
- if you change a home user it says in English “Select User” and then “PIN eingeben.”
-If you are on the Home Screen of a Apple TV (Beta Version) and scroll down: the place where it shows your libraries is written in English “Browse Libraries.” - Also if you open the three vertical dots of a movie it says in English “more”
- On movies: the subtitles icons are wrongly spelled as “off”
Just some stuff I found with a quick overview. ![]()
Thanks!
Where exactly does this string appear?
