Scanning movies very slow after, folder change. Lots of errors

Recently I changed the way my folder setup in my movies library is.

I have my movies in Film.& Series on different shares.

Under that I have series and movies and under each of them different folders depending on what they are (like blu ray dvd) also have stuff like star trek disney folders setup in the same way.

Before the change my movies was just aimed at film and series and my series to the series folders.

That meant that movies also saw series so i I thought I would change that to each specific movie folders (which ends up as a lot of folders, something like 29 folders movies needs to watch)

After this change my scanning seems to be a hell of a lot slower for movies. Not for tv shows.
Also I get a lot of errors wich might be related to a future update ChuckPa told about.
Also this change was made BEFORE ChuckPa helped me clean the database.

Plex Media Server Logs_2024-01-26_17-11-16.zip (4.9 MB)

Any idea why its this slow? are all the errors something different or connected to the slowness?

Can you refresh my memory please and fill in some of the details ?

In your logs, I’m seeing what looks like Movies underneath other Movies or names which don’t match their parent folder (Mixing languages?) ??

Is this correct ?

  1. –files “/volume1/Remote Mounts/Share 2/Film and Series 02/Filer/Film/Studio Ghibli/Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi (2001)/Spirited Away (2001) [1080p].mkv”

  2. –files “/volume1/Remote Mounts/Share 2/Film and Series 02/Filer/Film/Studio Ghibli/Rupan sansei Kariosutoro no shiro (1979)/Lupin the Third The Castle of Cagliostro (1979) [1080p] V2 [AAE0F98D].mkv”

Basically you

  1. told me that the unknown metadatatype: folder was something about some future update.

  2. you helped me make my database …cleaner? with your github program.

Yes this is correct japanese movies folder is japanese name and files are english.
Can’t remember why I chose to have both? probably so I could search for the movies and actually know what i was searching for.

Should this be a problem? not THAT many of them I think

I’ve seen it slow things down because it’s trying to reconcile two different titles and doesn’t know they are the same until the very end (after struggling)

I use FileBot got my renaming. It makes certain the folder and file name are the same language. PMS is much happier this way.

Whichever language you use, if it’s matching TMDB / IMDB (whichever agent you’re using) using a specific language, it’s best to keep folder and file the same.

Other media renaming tools: TinyMediaManager and TheRenamer are two which come to mind.

Regarding the “unknown metdata type”. Don’t worry about it. Yes it’s annoying but ignore it. I’ve trained my OCD to roll my eyes and keep going

Running my DB tool helps a lot with keeping things running well otherwise.
Not sure when you’ve last checked but I’ve made some big changes recently.

  1. Transcoder Cache cleaning
  2. Automatic self-updating
  3. DB page_size tuning (for ZFS systems).

Ok I will try and locate those with different folder /file names

I ran your tool 14 days ago?

@Thrawn

If you see an “88 - Update” option, you can update to the current.
Else you should go grab the current manually.
