Screen scrambled when using subtitles

Server Version#: PlexMediaServer-1.18.2.2058-e67a4e892-x86_64
Player Version#: the latest one on the Playstation 4

When I add a subtitle when playing a video the subtitles are shown, but the video is totally scrambled. It is not possible to view anymore. When I disable/remove the subtitle, the video is playing perfectly.
This started when I upgraded to the latest Server version of Plex.

The server is running on a Synology NAS DS918 and as client I’m using a Playstation 4.
When I’m using a Windows client to view a movie with added subtitles it works perfectly.

Logs on the Playstation do not contain Plex messages.

Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Regards,
Erik

I have the exact same issue for a few weeks, also using a Synology DS918+ as PSM and streaming video to the Samsung Plex app. As soon as embedded subtitles are selected (no matter if transcoding, streaming or direct playing is chosen), the image is scrambled. Overlayed ones are mostly out of sync…

This is obviously rendering Plex useless, as I’ve reverted to playing on PC and using casting to TV. Another post talks about the same issue, so hopefully this gets addressed quickly.

Good to hear there are more people with the same issue.

Is this forum the channel to inform Plex about bugs? I could not find a web form or something to report this problem.
It does mean Plex is useless for me at the moment … since I’m unable to use it on my television…

Thanks for replying!

I found this thread, looks like a fix is coming.

Thanks for this, Tim!

This issue can be closed because there is already another post that describes the same issue.

Exact same issue on synology ds918+ with lifetime plex pass here. Hopefully a fix for this soon? happens only when transcoding using quicksync while embedding subtitles.

Hi Jeroen,

There is a fix available!
Version 1.18.4.2082-0b92712ea works perfectly for me.

Unfortunately nope: Adding subtitles still renders scrambled video in latest build for me. Just tested PlexMediaServer-1.18.4.2171-ac2afe5f8-x86_64.spk and this did not work for me. Scrambled video whenever I try to use subtitles (PSG)
So I uninstalled PlexMediaServer-1.18.4.2171-ac2afe5f8-x86_64 and then reïnstalled plexmediaserver-1.18.4.2155-472413ec0-x86_64.spk, did the same test and this works just fine.
Running on Synology DS918+, DSM 6.2.2-24922 Update 4, INTEL Celeron J3455
I’m staying on 1.18.4.2155 for now but I am happy to retest quickly as soon as another build is made available.
Hope Plex dev team can track this down soon.
Kind regards,
Jeroen

Thanks for the build numbers Jeroen. I downgraded 1.18.4.2155-472413ec0-x86_64.spk on my DS918+ as well and it does work as it’s supposed to. Not sure what the difference is but that looks to be the magic build for me right now.

Still the same problem for me as well. The screen scrambles when using embedded subtitles on my DS918+. Is there possibly any solution for this in the near future? When I read this post it seems like the latest version doesn’t fix the problem…
