Selected Absolute Order, Episodes Don't Change

Anyone have a simple explanation why I select Absolute Order for a show in the advanced options in the editing menu but the metadata for the episodes doesn’t update? I’ve tried removing the show and re-adding but it just finds the show and adds it again with absolute numbering already selected but not with the correct metadata.

Feel free to ask questions. I know I’m not giving pertinent information but I’ve been trying to get this stupid Haruhi to get sorted in chronological order so long I feel dumb for not just doing it manually at this point so I’m irritated

  1. The absolute order for this show need to actually exist on TheTVDB.
  2. After changing the sorting order, you need to ‘Refresh Metadata’ of the whole show.
  3. You need to make sure that embedded metadata in your video files don’t override the metadata coming from online sources, by demoting the ‘Local Media Assets’ agent like so:
    Go to
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB

In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase
  1. It does exist there it’s just labeled 2009 series https://www.thetvdb.com/series/the-melancholy-of-haruhi-suzumiya
  2. I’ve refreshed multiple times
  3. I already had local media assets at the bottom of the list and that line isn’t actually checked to be included

Then you cannot use it in Plex, unfortunately.

Damn thetvdb
It’s fine. I forced it to use themoviedb instead which has the 2006 and 2009 runs as separate shows and now it sorts correctly

The “DVD order” has the 2009 episodes as Season 2, just like it used to be.

That doesn’t put the show in chronological order though as it was shown in 2009
