Series DVR recordings

The ‘to be announced’ has been an issue for a while now

The default (I think) is about 14 days of data, and small updates should slowly start topping this up each day, to keep it constant at 14 days, for some reason this doesnt allways happen so some channels slowly start to lose data in the future (BBC seems mainly to be affected from what i see), what i do is manually run an epg refresh every Sunday, minor annoyance, but it keeps the epg fully populated.

I have never had any luck with commercial removers, they seem more geared to the US market, so you might find them ok on US shows, but UK ones it could remove part of the show.
Having thumbnails for the episodes I find it quite easy to just skip through the ad breaks

I don’t use Plex Commercial removal. My primary Plex Server runs on Windows and I use mcebuddy for commercial removal. You can adjust the comskip.ini file that ships with Plex by copying it to a DVR folder as outlined in the Customizing How Commercials are Located and Removed in the Removing Commercials Support Article.

I have my detect_method option in the ini file used by mcebuddy set to 107. You might need to try different settings for your broadcast market. The detect_method looks for several different things in the video to help comskip determine where commercials start and end.

Here is the line with the detect_method from my file which shows the different items it can use for determining show versus commercial and the number for each item. All the items comskip is to use added together determines what the option should be set to.

detect_method=107 ;1=black frame, 2=logo, 4=scene change, 8=fuzzy logic, 16=closed captions, 32=aspect ration, 64=silence, 128=cutscenes, 255=all

Thanks for your replies, I think editing the complete .ini file may be beyond me for now, but I would like to see a complete file without installing it. Is this possible?
Do some people post complete .ini files anywhere?
Is it easy to edit?
By the way, I recorded a UK show called “Cleaning up” last night, it was on ITV & it worked perfectly. I must say the show title was clearly defined at the beginning & at the end of the ad break, does this help if commercial breaks are like that?
Does anyone know if SD or HD recordings work best for commercial removal?

The “to be announced” shows in the EPG were inconsistent, the particular show has 2 shows on Friday, 2 shows on Monday, 2 shows on Wednesday.
The EPG showed both Friday showings, none for the Monday & 1 for the Wednesday, all within the next 7 days. I would have expected the earlier showings to have been ok, eg: Monday not Wednesday.
Just to clarify, do you think the recording schedule will follow the EPG as the EPG is updated?

In the link I posted above it identifies based on OS where the packaged version of the comskip.ini is located. You can look at the file that is already installed and Plex is using for commercial removal.

I would try a manual refresh, just to see if it picks up the missing ones

Not in front of PC to double check mine, but i know CS is changing a bit in the next few weeks, then back to normal schedules after that

Mon 18th, I would have expected a double as normal
Wed 20th, There is only one, think it’s the BAFTAs or similar at 8pm
Fri 22nd is one episode for 60 mins

If it still shows strange episodes scheduled after a refresh of the guide, I can try setting Corrie to record on mine later and see what i get (I am in the UK also)

Hi Paul,

I can see as the guide updates so does the recording schedule.

I’ve noticed another small thing, tho’ its no problem to me, in the IOS app on my iPhone if I highlight a series linked show in the recording schedule its shows SD, not HD. If I look on the web client on my iMac its shows the programmed recording as HD. Have you, or anyone else noticed this?

I have the same problem as sandyged. If I use the guide to set a show to record once, it works fine. It shows up in the recording list and actually records. If I set a show to record new airings only, it shows in the series recording priority list on the right, but it doesn’t show a red record icon in the guide, and doesn 't record. I deleted all new airings only recordings, and tried again. Same thing. I deleted them all and tried just one, and the same thing. Shows on the right recording priority list, but not in the guide and doesn’t record. Only setting a show to record once works.

I am running the server ver 1.14.1.5488 on my Windows 10 pc with a Core i7 processor, and multiple GB’s of disk drives. The DVR is hooked to a HDHomerun Quatro. Live TV works great, Single recordings work great. What can I do to get new airings only to work?

Thanks

Adding another observation… I set Last Man Standing to record all new airings. I see it in Recording Priority as “no upcoming airings”. The guide entry I clicked on to record it shows it as a new show.

Hi Jorakal

When I set series recordings I now use “New & Repeat Airings”, then in the advanced settings I use “Limit to channel”, I pick the HD channel of the broadcaster.
Another thing I do is in “Minutes after end” add 2. I have had no duplicate recordings so far, I thought I would using “New & Repeat Airings”.
Hope this helps.
