Server 1.40.5.8761 not pulling TheMovieDB Episode Metadata when Series Set to The Movie Database

Server Version#: 1.40.5.8761

Added a new series today, Super Friends, and wanted to use The Movie Database episode order as it combines multiple stories into single episodes where TheTVDB does not. However, when using the MovieDB Aired as the series metadata provider, no season or episode metadata populate, they’re just “Episode 1” etc.

The MovieDB: Super Friends (TV Series 1973-1985) — The Movie Database (TMDB)

I’ve got the series itself set to use The Movie Database (Aired) order and refreshed the metadata.

When that didn’t work, I added The Movie Database ID to the file folder as “Super Friends {tmdb-936}”, and that also did not work.

I’ve tried unmatching and re-matching and am still having the issue.

I’ve had success in the past, so I’m assuming this is a bug somewhere?

Thanks

EDIT: To add, I’ve also tried the “Super Friends (1973)” naming convention as well.

It’s probably worth having a look at your server logs – I’ve just created a fake entry for the show in my library and changed the episode order as per your description… those seem to be showing up as expected in my library (with episode thumbs, titles and descriptions etc.).

For your reference:

The TVDb (aired) vs. TMDb (aired).

Sounds like there might be an issue preventing Plex from obtaining the metadata or something going on with your database.
Just for clarification – when you add the files, can you check Get InfoView XML from the context menu of the show’s episodes? Does that XML show a grandparentGuid attribute, with a value staring with plex://show/?

Thanks tom80H,

Looking at your picture, the image you have of TMDB (aired) is incorrectly showing episode information from Season 9 as Season 1, and I’m also now seeing the same issue on my end (after a few metadata refreshes). Seasons 2-9 are still showing no metadata on my end.

On the episodes, I’m seeing grandparentGuid is “plex://show/5d9c082508fddd001f293786”

Logs attached.

I’ve also confirmed there is no embedded metadata in the mkv files that would be throwing off the ordering

To add, it looks like Plex also isn’t pulling TheTVDB (DVD) order either, or at least not the metadata from the last week or so.

Is there an issue with the Plex Metadata client itself?

FYI, the issue remains in server 1.40.5.8796. It’s not updating correct episode metadata from TheMovieDB (Aired) or TheTVDB (DVD Order).
Thanks

Good news, today TheTVDB (DVD Order) metadata updated with the correct information. It’s understandably missing a Season 1, but 2-9 look good.

Yesterday, @BigWheel over on reddit noticed a linking issue with the metadata on TMDB linking to The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians (TV Series 1985-1985) — The Movie Database (TMDB) which is also season 9 of the main show and they removed the bad link and had the plex metadata team take a look at this series as well.

Maybe correcting the TMDB link correct helped fix TheTVDB DVD order as well somehow?

I’ll still keep an eye out on the TheMovieDB order over the next few days to see if that updates, as they did say it could take a few days for the Plex metadata agents to process.

Thanks for the help!
