Server crashes on every connection

Hello,
Following a network connection failure, I can no longer relaunch plex from my pc with a browser without causing the plex server on my nas to stop in a few seconds…
This only happens when I go to the library that was running at the time of the crash. If I access the other libraries, everything works.
I’ve already had this problem, I had to delete and recreate the library and everything was back in order. But now I can’t delete this library, which represents years of work.
I also have a backup of the plex directory on the nas.
What solution would you recommend? Thanks for your help!

I’ve just realized that I can access the libraries normally from my TV in read mode. From my PC in modification mode, it crashes (from the url https://app.plex.tv/).

Plex Media Server stops running?

A set of server logs that captures the failure will help diagnose the problem.

Can you access the Plex Media Server settings to retrieve server log files?

Yes:

  1. Re-create the problem that causes Plex to stop.
  2. Start Plex Media Server and wait 2 minutes for it to fully start.
  3. Go to Settings → Troubleshooting, download the log file.
  4. Upload the entire ZIP file to the thread.

No:

  1. Re-create the problem that causes Plex to stop.
  2. Do not restart Plex Media Server.
  3. Using Synology File Station, navigate to the Plex Data Folder.
  4. Right click on the Logs directory and choose “Compress to Logs.zip.”
  5. Upload the zip file to the thread.

Thanks

Thanks for the log files.

Since the problem started with a network interruption, please verify the IP address, mask, and default gateway are correct in DSM (Control Panel → Network).

Also, if you’ve not done so, sync the NAS with a public NTP server. Control Panel → Regional Options → Time tab.

Then reboot the NAS, let Plex Media Server fully start, and see if the problem persists.

Well, that’s that.
The problem is not solved.

Note that I can access the plex server from the web browser. All libraries work except the one I was using at the time of the crash. When I access it, the server stops.

Is it your Photo’s Library? I haven’t been following the status on this as to whether it was a server or client problem.

You could restore the databases(blobs and db) from before the crash or run ChuckPA’s database repair tool which also has database restore capability.

Thanks. Just wanted to clear that off the table.

My first thought was that the database is corrupt. However, the log files show no such error messages.

They show what you describe - you’re browsing a library, Plex Media Server is delivering the info - posters, etc. - and it stops.

Question: Any chance you’ve changed permissions on the Plex Data Folder (/PlexMediaServer)?

No, no, I didn’t do anything.
I was editing the information on a film when the network went down.
This happened to me a day or two ago on another library. I deleted it and recreated it, which solved the problem.
This time I can’t delete the library. It represents years of effort…

Running the DBRepair utility, as @pl_5309 mentions, might help. It certainly will not hurt.

Are you comfortable accessing the NAS via SSH?

Yes, I can restore the entire Plex directory. But I don’t know if it’s the right solution.

There is no need to restore the entire Plex directory, just 2 database files.

I think I know how to use SSH, but which command line for DBrepair?
It’s easier for me to restore the 2 databases, if it gives the same result.

That will restore the database to before the crash. You can try that first. If it does not help, then we can try the DBRepair utility.

Ok, Give me some time
Thanks

Which backup should I choose?

There are older versions of the database, right?
I could delete them. They’re useless, aren’t they?

Do not delete the older files.

You want to replace the current db with a pair that predates the problem.

  1. Stop Plex Media Server.
  2. Rename com.plexapp.plugins.library.db to com.plexapp.plugins.library.db–save
  3. Rename com.plexapp.plugins.library.blobs.db to com.plexapp.plugins.library.blobs.db–save
  4. Pick one of the .db & .blobs.db files that predate the problem. Remove the date from the end of the file name so they end in .db and .blobs.db.
  5. Delete the two -shm and the two -wal files.
  6. Start Plex Media Server

Plex might take a minute or two longer to start. If you see a “503 maintenance” message, wait a couple of minutes, then refresh the browser page.

Then try to navigate to the problematic library.

I did exactly that, and it worked.
The defective library was returned to its previous state, clean.
Many thanks to you 2 !!! And happy new year 2025

Very good news.

Glad you’re up and running.

And a happy 2025 to you as well.
