Server crashing on Start

Plex has been installed on this computer and ran perfectly for years without much work or intervention.

Recently it just quits on startup. Tried rebooting and all that. No new software. I keep things updated but nothing seems to be too different. Except I can’t use Plex anymore.

Tried the installer repair option. Nothing.

Tried rebooting. Nothing.

Closed other programs and relaunched. nothing.

All the typical things one usually does doesn’t seem to help

Windows 10 64bit. Not sure what else you all need. Checked the logs in the plex directory and there’s nothing current. everything is several months old. I use Plex everyday and it works all the time except the last few days I can’t get it to start.

I can see for your dividebyzero server there are crashes that other users have reported following installation of windows update KB3216755 which is caused by a faulty api that Plex Media Server is using.

Have a look at this forum topic http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/255721/pms-closing-immediately-after-launch/p1 and others that mention the api AreDVDCodecsEnabled or the crashing dll CompPkgSup.DLL

This was escalated to Microsoft and also a user has reported on the MSDN forum.
Plex Media Server will get updated to get round this windows bug

Plex Media Server 1.4.1 is now available which has a change that avoids the crashes in the faulty windows DLL CompPkgSup.dll that a lot of users encountered after installing windows update Cumulative Patch KB3216755

Version 1.4.1 is initially being made available to Plex Pass users.

The Release Notice is available here

sorry for the late reply. the 1.4.1 did the trick. thank god, i was not looking forward to all that uninstall/reinstall stuff. I work with niche commercial software all day and all I get is the run around; going so far as to blame me for their bugs. I pay 10,000X more for that experience than I do Plex. I tell that story just to say I know this isn’t easy and I appreciate the fast reaction time and the support that actually supports. Thank you all!
