Server does not appear in browser app but appears in player

I have a situation where I cannot see my Plex server when I use the browser app at https://app.plex.tv. When I login using other Plex apps (Shield TV, Android), I can see the server. Also if I login from the same browser to the web app using the internal IP of my Plex server (http://myinternalserver:32400), I can see the server just fine. Normally that’s how I end up watching Plex on my computer. I just would like to know why app.plex.tv does not work the same way. I have tried Chrome, Chrome Incognito, Firefox, Safari so it doesn’t seem to be browser or cache specific.

Maybe you are logged into a different Plex account in your browser?
And the local web only works because you have configured the server to not enforce authentication in the local network.
So, log out and clean browser cache and cookies from plex.tv for good measure.

Thanks for the reply. I have logged in with several browsers including incognito and I only have 1 account. I have also logged in with Chrome on my phone and have the same issue. So I am 100% certain the issue is not cache or cookies. But just to be thorough I have also cleared those things to no avail.

Which web browser are you using?
Did you enable any advanced security policies in it’s settings?
Or did you install any browser add-ons?
Is there a 3rd-party firewall or anti virus software in use?
Any VPN software installed?

On my mac:
Chrome - No advanced security settings. A few browser extensions enabled
Chrome Incognito - No advanced security settings. I believe all extensions are disabled by default
Firefox - No settings changes. No extensions installed
Safari - No settings changes. No extensions in install

No 3rd party firewall or antivirus
I use OpenVPN for work but it only routes traffic for my work websites. I have also tried disconnecting it and doesn’t make a difference.

On my Android phone:
Chrome - No settings changed from default

I have no 3rd party firewall or antivirus. I have no vpn

It doesn’t look like your server is connected to your plex account at the moment. (or a different account)

Where is the server running? On a Windows PC? If so, try You need to reclaim your server, but don't dare to touch the Windows Registry

It is running on a Synology NAS

In this case, look at number 15 in here: Synology FAQ - Questions, Answers, and a few How-To's

Oh, before doing anything else, reset your Plex password: Important notice of a potential data breach 24th of August 2022

Ok. I have changed my password and gone through the procedure you linked. I still have the same issue though.

I did notice there seems to be a “Sign out and unclaim the server” option now, which I selected. It seemed like what I wanted to do. Perhaps the linked post should be updated.

I don’t have a Syno, so I never saw this. Where does it appear?

After clicking Uninstall from the Package Manager there is a wizard with this being one of the options. Here is a screenshot

I see. This appears to be specific to the Synology package.

Did signing out and reclaiming your server improve your situation in any way?

No. Still the same issue.

@petermeth

After uninstalling, Now we will install the same SPK file again.

This time, we will use the Plex Claim Token option (“Lost or new servers”)

  1. Select that radio button
  2. Click ‘Get Plex Claim Token’ hyperlink
  3. COPY the claim token you get from the new browser tab
  4. Return to the install page
  5. PASTE it into the small box on the form.
  6. Click NEXT NEXT DONE and let it install.

It will take a little bit longer than normal (it communicates and signs in for you).
When it’s done, if all was successful, it will show Claimed by: YourPlexUsername

You’ll be able to open PMS normally after that.

Thanks ChuckPa, but I already did that and it did not help anything.

would you please make a ZIP file of the “Logs” directory in the PlexMediaServer shared folder and attach it?

For what it’s worth, this feels to me like a split-account issue. I’d double TRIPLE check that you are indeed using the same account to log into app.plex.tv and localhost. Log out when in app.plex.tv, then log back in (don’t use saved browser password). Log out while on localhost, then log back in using the same credentials (not what is stored in browser password vault).

Ignore this if you like. Shouldn’t take too much work to try, but if you are confident you did this then I’ll bow out.

@Divideby0

If that’s the case, the server’s ownership will move with the use of the Claim Token to whichever account is currently signed in which should be the browser
