Server Issue

I am having a issue with my server. When I first started using plex, I had a server name Home Theater PC. I then had to move plex to another pc and created another server called Blue Iris, this is the latest server. At that time I thought I had deleted the old server. Its not showing up on the pc that has plex but my other pcs that run plex through chrome. On the one pc, I deleted it in devices but it still shows up under the drop down menu in server name, and it also has a secure connection and my latest server, blue iris does not. On top of that, the old server is saying that this server is unclaimed and not secure. I try to claim it (so I can remove it) but it doesnt work. Please help. The blue iris server version is 1.18.3.2156. I have also noticed that the pc that is running plex shows secure conection but the other pc, that showed the other server, shows blue iris as connected, with a check mark, but no lock icon next to it.
It appears when I sign out of plex I see this server is unclaimed and not secure. Ok, I went into devices, while logged out and found the home theater pc and deleted it. Now when I sign into my plex account via chrome, it says it cannot find a server. The blue iris server is running fine on the pc with it installed.

Your plex account currently doesn’t have a server logged into it.
Normally, your plex clients are retrieving info about available server from your account, so now they could only use old/cached info or relying on local network discovery (which is not available on all client types).

The first you’ll need to do is to sign-in your new server to your plex account.
Try this procedure with the new server: https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/

Make sure to use a regular web browser without any add-ins which might filter out or suppress parts of web sites. Both the server and the web browser need full internet connectivity.

This is a little bit over my head in terms of trying to understand all of this. I don’t want to do anything that will screw up plex or my pc. I cleared data in chrome, reloaded browser in hopes of getting it to work, now its saying plex is not reachable. Ok, it now loaded plex but im back to searching for server and its not finding it.

I tried using my fire tv stick hooked up to my tv. When it searched for servers, it found two, my current one and the older one I cant seem to get rid of. It then said when I clicked on blue iris ( recent server) that it is unclaimed and if i clicked on it, it would be a indirect connection. I am totally confused as to what is going on and how to fix this. I am not very knowledgable when it comes to pc related issues. If anyone can help me through this issue, it would be greatly appreciated. Unless something is spelled out, step by step, I have in the past, when trying to resolve pc issues, made things worse. I would appreciate if someone, that has knowledge on how to fix this, can either walk me through this over the phone would be best, or even messaging as I communicate if something goes wrong.

Is there anyone that can help me to resolve all the issues I’m having? Right now my plex media server is pretty much useless. And how do I make sure the older server is deleted from plex and any clients and get the clients to play directly from my updated plex server? Please, if someone can help walk me through this.
Is this the same as you mentioned in a previous post that I could follow along?

Yes, this is the procedure. (Though I don’t know how reading the text from a video is better.)

Removing old servers is a two step process:

  1. remove the old server from your plex account by deleting its “token” in here (make sure to not delete your current server, or you’ll have to perfrom the above procedure again!)
    https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/devices/pms
  2. reset the ‘default server’ in your plex client apps and/or remove the libraries from the old servers and ‘pin’ the libraries of the new server to the side bar.
    https://support.plex.tv/articles/customizing-plex-web#toc-4
    https://support.plex.tv/articles/customizing-the-apps#reset
    https://support.plex.tv/articles/customizing-the-mobile-apps-2#reset

Ok, so, just to get this straight, I do the “how to regain access to you plex server when your locked out” procedure first, then I remove and reset the old server as you mentioned?

Just as a note, I clicked on the link to remove old server and its already removed, it only shows the current server.
Ok, when I try to customize plex web, there is no advanced option, it shows this instead:
Any Plex Web settings and home screen customization made in this Plex Web instance will not be synchronized with other Plex Web instances. This is because we have detected you have previously saved settings from a newer version of Plex Web.

So, how do I deal with this issue?
Also, when I use another pc (in my network) and go to the same web address that it shows on the server pc, it says an unclaimed media server has been found on your network, claim it now. Just to make sure you understand, this is another pc, not the server pc.

I am also having issue with remote acces, shows red exclamation point by remote access.

Update: I just did the procedure with the registry on the server pc and when I started up plex server, now its saying that there is a unclaimed server. So, thinking I could just delete the server from authorized devices, I claimed the server and when I went to authorized devices, it only shows the newest server, not the old one. I am totally confused in what to do?

Better do it the other way around. Just in case you remove the wrong server, then you’d have to perform the procedure anyway.

Use the hosted web app app.plex.tv

That means there is nothing to do under Authorized Devices to help and debug this issue.

What is the status quo?
How is the main page of your web app looking now?

Ok, I did as you suggested and the old server appears to be gone from the server pc. It looks like the other pc is running without errors and shows the lock icon which I understand to be connected directly. There are a couple tvs that with the fire tv stick, plex is being streamed on my local network. I did find in the settings of plex to make sure never is checked next to use insecure connection. Shortly afterwards I had a window pop up saying that plex was using a insecure connection. How do I resolve this issue with the fire tv stick? The other issues appears to be resolved, thank you for your help in those .

No, it just means that the communication between client and server is secured/encrypted.
You cannot deduct the type of connection from this.

On the firetv, if you select your user name on the left sidebar, is there a menu item named ‘Media Server Status’? If yes, select it.
It will tell you which servers are available and if the connection is Nearby or Remote.

You should set that to ‘allow in the local network’/‘allow for local servers’. Because secure connections for local servers are 1. not really required and 2. can only work if your router is playing ball. Many routers don’t.
see https://support.plex.tv/articles/206225077-how-to-use-secure-server-connections#toc-4 for details

In the Plex app, on the fire TV stick, when I click on my username, only 2 options come up, switch user and settings, nothing else. It’s in these settings that I found the settings to change for secure connection. Backing up to the Plex homepage, I scroll down, click on more, and it shows 2 media servers, the present one and the old one I thought was deleted and gone. How do I get this old server off from the fire TV.

On the FTV, try signing out of your plex account, then reboot the FTV and sign back in.

I did that, it had me relink to plex, now it’s asking me to choose my preferred server. The old server is still listed as a option.

Is it possible, that the old server is still running in your local network?
Because even though it is no longer signed into your account, it might still be recognized by the FTV as a locally present server by other means like GDM and/or UPnP.

I also uninstalled Plex and reinstalled hoping that would fix the issue. Now it’s saying the server is unavailable.

Dont really know what GDM is and I know for a fact, UPnP is turned off in router settings, as I was into my router settings a few days ago.

Which issue?
An old server appearing in a client is one issue.
A client reporting an unsecured connection is another issue.
A client having old media sources in the side bar is a third issue.

Uninstalling and reinstalling all the time inbetween is not helping in systematically tracking down and removing each of the issues.

I believe the issue we are trying to address is old server appearing on the fire tv device, but now, upon uninstalling and reinstalling plex, now its saying my current server is unavailable so this is now another issue. You said that its ok to have insecure connections checked (plex settings in fire tv) as long as its on the local network, which it is. I just didn’t want plex to play my media through the plex servers instead of accessing it locally, which if i understood correctly, thought that was part of the secure connection option. I guess if i understood that incorrectly, how do i make sure its accessing my content locally instead of routing through plex servers?

Actually, allowing unsecure connections makes ‘relay’ connections less likely to occur, because relay connections require encryption. And that is a good thing for you.

No, there is no direct causation. ‘Relay’/‘Indirect’ or ‘remote’ connections is what you want to avoid here. And which type of connection is used should be visible in the user interface somewhere.

When you use the web app, you can see it if you go into the Settings, and then look at the left side until you see the name of your server. If you click on it, you will see all server names and how they are connected to the web app. Secure, unsecure, local, remote, or indirect.

I’m pretty sure there is a way in the FireTV to see this type of information as well.
I’ll need to ask around, because I don’t have an FTV to test this anymore.

What does it say in the web app about the connection to your server?

Ok, in the web app i see the current server with a green lock icon and then underneath the name, it says nearby, thats the only info it gives.

Its still showing on my ftv that the current server is unavailable. Theres a triangle with a exclamation point next to the current server name. How do I fix this issue? Whatever I do, the server is not accessible. Its also still showing the old server too.
