I have a desktop PC & a Samsung Smart TV. The TV connects to the router through Wi-Fi. The server is running on the PC.
PC can connect to the router through Wi-Fi or wired.
When the PC is on Wi-fi, I can access the media server on the Samsung TV app.
But when I use the wired connection from the PC to the router, I get an error on the TV app saying the server is not available.
I can access the server without any problem from my phone (which uses the same network via Wi-fi) while the PC is connected to the router through Wi-Fi or using a wired connection.
Can anyone identify the reason why I can’t access the server through the TV app while the PC is wire connected to the router ?
When you switch the connection, your server is getting a different IP address.
The least you need to do is to stop and restart the server, when you do that.
If you are using Secure Connections, it means that also the FQDN of your server and its cryptographic certificate changes. These changes need to propagate down from the root DNS servers to your router and all your client devices on your local network.
This can take several hours sometimes, due to caches and/or misaconfigurations of the different network participants.
I wouldn’t expect immediate success with all client devices after changing such an fundamental parameter as the IP address.
You might have to explicitly leave the Plex app on the TV. Then reboot the TV and restart the Plex app.
Another idea: Did you perhaps use the “manual server” preference in the Samsung app and put the server’s IP address in there?
