Hi there, I am using KODI, but would like to try Plex. However, before starting the deep dive, I would like to understand if Plex supports my main scenario. Please advise:
I have a MiniPC Beelink EQ12 with Proxmox 8.4.1 installed. It runs HomeAssistant (VM), KODI 20.2 (Ubuntu in LXC) and a couple of other test servers. A projector (via receiver) is connected to MiniPC via HDMI.
When I turn on the projector, I don’t see a Linux console on the screen, but a KODI screen, so I can watch movies, listen to music, etc. I.e. video and audio broadcasting goes to HDMI directly from the server. I control it either with a typical multimedia remote control or from my phone using Yatse.
Unless I miss understand your goal;
Plex media server is only a server / daemon in Linux terms. It provides access to your media and it’s meta-data.
No gui by itself.
So either you run a Linux desktop env on your lxc that renders a webpage like app.plex.tv or an app (like kodi) that uses Plex. I don’t see how this would work.
You could run a desktop and use the Plex-CLIENT next to the server. Perhaps you could get away with mangling your Kodi to bring-up the Plex-client instead.
Personally I use Plex for sever and Plex amp. And an android box to ‘consume’ data via Plex app.
Thank you for the clarification. I was misled by the indication in some reviews that Plex is both server and client…
Then it’s a bit simpler - I’ll put up a Plex server on my NAS. And for MiniPC with Proxmox I will look for the right client. As far as I understand, what I need is called Plex HTPC.
i would say yes; the ’ HTPC’ function is either fullfilled by browser app.plex.tv, or an client-app for linux/windows/android or kodi-like player with plex-plugin-support.
