I added a massive music catalog to Plex more than 24 hours ago on my Synology server, and it’s still scanning the library files. With the scan running, I’ve noticed that I’m completely locked out of all Settings receiving “Server settings are unavailable.” Is there a progress bar that can be viewed, so that I know how much data has been processed, and more importantly, how much longer it will take to complete?
I regret to inform you that adding anything massive on a Synology is the definition of pain especially music.
I strongly advise:
Stop scanning if you can. If not, restart PMS
Regain control
Delete the music library
Recreate it in a controlled manner.
Controlled manner means:
Add sub-directories one at a time. (e.g. A-E, F-K, L-N, O-S, T, U-Z)
add each individual, and allow it to be completely processed before adding the next to the list of folders. (Add, allow to scan to completion, Add next, allow to finish… wash, rinse repeat until done)
PMS does not have a limit to how many folders/directories you can specify for a library. The Synology, on the other hand, simply does not have the CPU power to complete anything “massive” in this century.
