Server settings are unavailable

after a restart, my server is showing 'server settings are unavailable.

You might want to take a look at this support article…

Hi tom80H,

thanks for replaying but, that hasn’t worked.

in that case…
please share some more details on your server, e.g. which version are you using, are you accessing it online (https://app.plex.tv/desktop) or through the version of Plex Web installed on your server (https://[your-PMS-IP-address]:32400/web)…
Are you logged in with the same account that owns the server?

it is running on windows 10, it did a update today and after that it has said this error since. I have deleted Plex and uninstalled it now. it started working for about 5 min then this problem came back. I am using chrome to connect to http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html#!/settings/server/ed150859ceae575db8bae05fa643401078525a4b/settings/general
I get the same from other computers on the network or going to it outside my network. all say ā€˜server settings are unavailable.’
Plex server is 1.12.1.1973-0f4abfbcc

have you considered upgrading to the current version of the Plex Media Server (v1.18.1)?

sorry I missed typed, I downloaded it from Plex website 1.18.1.1973-0f4abfbcc October 17, 2019

I had this exact same issue with my server, different build but same warning. I had imported 3 new movies into my library but the ā€˜metadata’ didnt download and i only had grey tiles where the movies were. I deleted those 3 movies from my library and i was immediately able to access my server settings. I wonder if they corrupted it somehow, anyway im gonna try and update my server build and reimport those movies and see how it goes. Good luck to you my friend.

And updating my build and reimporting those movies has worked a treat and evrything is back to normal.

Well turns out i spoke too soon. After double checking my work i noticed my vpn was off so i turned it back, once i did it went back to server unavailable.

I did remember changing a setting in it today so removed plex from the app exlusion list in Private Internet Access and it all appears to be good again, VPN ONN or OFF.

thank you for your replay, I don’t use VPN and I didn’t add any new things

Ahh bugger, sorry to hear you don’t have the same circumstances. Well I wish you luck finding an answer.

Still no ideas?

any fix for this?

I have had the same error for the last 24 hours. I did not update to the newest build. I also cycle from ā€œserver unreachableā€ to being back up without any apparent reason. The only thing I did recently was try to copy some music to a second hard drive, but when I saw the metadata didn’t transfer, I removed that second drive from the folder settings. I also deleted quite a lot of music but I don’t see how that would affect the Server Settings.

I found a post somewhere around here If I can find it ill give credit, but the gist is. I had Plex Whitelisted on my VPN app and it would not work. Once I took it out of the Whitelist it works fine now.

Yup. The fix is with whitelisted apps in your VPN.

I have surfshark and had recently added Plex to my whitelisted apps. It prevents me from access to the server settings as well as updating the metadata for newly added files.
