Server settings are unavailable

Server Version#: 1.15.4.993-bb4a2cb6c

Seems I’m not the first person to post this topic. I’ve reviewed this thread:

My server is running on Windows, but I set up a new NAS for storage. I moved my media there, and then moved my metadata there, and at some point along the way got into a state where “server settings are unavailable”.

The registry key Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server\LocalAppDataPath is set to M:\PlexData, but I tried M:\PlexData\ as well.

The only thing I can think is, “M” is now a mapped network share, where previously it was a USB disk. And maybe Plex doesn’t like that?

I’m working on copying the metadata folder back to the system disk, to try it there, but with all those tiny files, it’s a 24hr+ copy.

I recently had this problem when I migrated from one Linux server to a
new Linux server. Initially, everything was working, but after a couple of
days, I got this error. Logging out of Plex, stopping PMS and restarting
PMS fortunately fixed it for me. I don’t know what caused it. I’ve been
up a couple of weeks now and it has not reoccurred. You did not
explicitly say you’ve already done that, so if you haven’t, give it a try.
I feel your pain/disappointment.

You should be able to view the log files directly, without using the Plex
webapp to look at them (which I understand is not currently an option).
Search the forum and you’ll find links on how to find your logs for
Windows. Maybe the logfiles will show something useful.

This seemed to help…

I deleted the Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server\LocalAppDataPath key entirely.

I copied the contents of my previous Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Databases folder to the default %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Databases folder.

I copied the contents of my previous Plex Media Server\Plug-ins to the default %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Plug-ins folder.

Starting the server seemed to find my media, users, watch history, etc. Other settings seemed fine as well. Media metadata was missing, but I’m having it rescan everything now.

Never move the Plex data folder to a network share. That’s a recipe for disaster and a damaged database.
