Server Settings not available on same machine

Server Version#: 1.29.0.6244
Player Version#: web or android app

Hi all -
Having an issue being able to stream from my server. Right now, I can pull up the media list in web interface and in app, but can’t get it to actually play anything. When I try to go to server settings, it gives me the dreaded “Server settings are unavailable” message. Finally, I happened to notice that if I try to go to http://127.0.0.1:32400/web, it is unable to pull up the page at all, but going to http://localhost:32400/web pulls up the page (tho I can’t access the server settings as above).

The exact same happens after fully removing and reinstalling Plex, including zapping the data directory and registry keys.

I’ve been struggling with this for some time now, any pointers would be welcome!

Hi,
I am having a similar issue after years of trouble-free use.
THE PROBLEM: app opens on my dedicated PC but cannot open any of my files on the server - shows folders with an exclaimation. The apple TV Box has exactly the same problem, again after years of no probs.
ALREADY TRIED: Full delete and reinstall of server and app. Checked login correct. Checked Nortons firewall - Plex has permission. Uninstalled Nortons and anything else I didn’t need. Checked Server is set to open at start-up.
WEIRD SOLUTION: If, after access is denied, I go to the server and open in admin mode, access is immediately allowed on App and Apple TV. This access vanishes as soon as I reboot…
ALSO TRIED: Setting the server to boot in admin mode - no luck.
TECH STUFF: Win10 64bit Fully updated. HP Elite Desk PC with 1Tb SSD and i7 chip, Asus 68U router. Used only as AV server.
There must be a simple solution, cheers to anyone who can help.

Have since tried full reinstall after registry clean etc. Checked Win10 firewall. Same problem persists. Further attempts to get Plex server to boot in Admin mode not successful - have to do it manually each time.

You need to determine which folder is used as the Plex data folder when you start PMS “As Administrator”.
Take a look into
C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server (if it exists)
and
C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server
as well. Take a look at “modified at” date/time stamps to determine which folder is actually in use.

If the data folder under your Windows user name is in use, you might need to reset the access permissions and “owner” flags of all files in all (sub)folders in there.
Because you running as Admin may have blocked access to some of them when you run it under your regular user account.

Here is a tool which can make this task a little bit easier for you: Resetting NTFS files permission in Windows – Graphical Utility – lallous' lab
(During this procedure, PMS has to be completely shut down!)

Not sure if this was in reply to me or to the other person here, but I tried your steps just to be sure, sadly, no luck.

I still can’t get PMS to give any page when going to 127.0.0.1, and still gives the site at localhost instead. And no Server Settings are available. At this point, I can really only get it to stream from a remote server, not my local one.

Any help?

Which Windows version are you using?

Is there a 3rd-party anti virus or firewall software installed?

Or VPN software?

It’s Windows 10, no firewall software other than the built in one (disabled for local network) and VPN is bypassed for PMS (surfshark in particular)

It was working about a month or so ago, and I don’t know of any changes between when it worked and now

Try You need to reclaim your server, but don't dare to touch the Windows Registry
