For the last few updates, Plex has been crashing regularly. The frequency is impossible to calculate because I often cannot complete an episode of any show I’m watching or any movie before having to restart it. I have commented on this topic - Server Crashes every Day - Plex Media Server / Desktops & Laptops - Plex Forum
In addition to this, I cannot see anything in the settings that can allow me to debug by checking the logs or backup library, add or edit library settings…
In the screenshot above, every link in that section just causes it to spin until it says the settings are unavailable. I’ve had to rollback a few times to get it to stay on but can’t keep doing that and wanted to know if there’s a more permanent solution.
I don’t want to reinstall without backing up my library. I don’t mind losing my play history, but I have family members and friends who watch stuff on my server and wouldn’t want to inconvenience them (any further - because I keep getting told they can’t connect).
If the database is corrupt, follow the repair procedure in the document. You can also try restoring from a backup. See Restore a Database Backed Up via ‘Scheduled Tasks’. Test the backup for corruption before using it with your server.
Thanks. I was able to check if the database was corrupt. It was fine and any attempts to fix the issue failed but because the database was fine, I made the decision to back it up. Uninstall. Deleting other folders such as Media, and Metadata, then reinstalled it. Before running the placed the backed-up copy of the database back in the folder.
After starting the server, it started to get the metadata back, re-detected intros and all. But the main thing is I was able to watch my shows without interruption. The only downside is that I lost a few days of watch history so people will have to manually mark a couple of episodes as watched but I can live with that.
