Server Version#: 1.27.1.5891
Player Version#: Newest
For a few days now, the server keeps crashing. However, the exe continues to run, but the server is no longer responsive. On the web interface then comes the message when you want to go into the settings that something has gone wrong.
Attached are the logs from the server.
According to my other monitoring tools it was neither a heat problem nor anything else with Windows. So it should be something on the server. Since it affects both servers, it is not due to the device.
In my case it turns out not to have been Plex. I somehow got a coin miner malware/ransomware that uses archiver/unarchiver exe name (executed in task scheduler). None of the virus scanners I used thought it was a hit. It hid itself when looking at task manager/process explorer. It only appeared to be Plex because of some interaction that cause the entire system to crash (in a weird way where system is still up but unresponsive) when Plex was running (typically the nightly maintenance). I’m in the process of nuking windows to be sure it’s gone (and also roll back from Windows 11 to Windows 10 due to some annoying W11 bugs) Something to check for windows users
edit: that said, I rolled back to 1.25.5.5492 because I didn’t want any grief from beta Plex server
Same issues for me since the latest update, can happening with a few minutes, but certainly within a day. The plex server is up and running, but won’t serve anything until I restart the service. There is nothing I can see in the logs to indicate anything is wrong… I rolled back one release to 1.27.0.5897 and its a little better (not happening as often) I’m on macOS FWIW.
I came to report the same problem. It’s been happening for a few updates now. The server just disappears randomly and I have to restart it and restart the show I was watching.
A workaround is rolling back to an earlier version but after each subsequent update it goes back to disconnecting me and others connected to my server. I’ve had to connect the hard drive directly to my Xbox to continue watching anything until this is resolved.
Exact same issue here, can go a while without a problem but then the server can lockup multiple times within minutes of each crash, needs to be closed completely and started again before it’ll work.
It might be absolutely fine for a day or two or it’ll do the exact same thing in 5 minutes and could need restarting 50 times one after another.
We had an issue like this years ago which an update seemed to fix.
People at Plex, you need to get this fixed, we pay more than enough for this software to work and right now it isn’t.
We have to clarify what we mean by “crash”. My crash isn’t truly a crash, but what is called a “deadlock” - this occurs when Plex is totally unreachable via the web interface or any client, but the server is still “running” in the system tray of Windows 10. The only fix is to either right click and stop Plex, then restart it; or reboot the entire server. If the Plex icon is disappearing totally from the system tray or is no longer in task manager, then that would truly be a crash of the program. The thread where we are discussing the “deadlock” issue that myself and others are having is located here: Plex Server Crashing Randomly - #78 by brucestephensrx
