Hello

My new 4k TV (see above) seams not to play 4k on plex.
The TV is in the current software version and connected by gbit LAN. But on wireless the same problem.

I play a 4k content by using the smarttv client. On the server-side i realize that the „current playing“ list of users iˋm in, but the video part is transcodet from 4k to 1080p :thinking:

The Client Settings are direct playing enabled and the quality is markt a original.
On the server side no limits too.

Is there a trick i did not see??

edit: just test my 4k apple tv on this TV. And i can see that the server “4k → direct stream”

this may or may not help @ Plex, 4k, transcoding, and you - aka the rules of 4k - a FAQ

the most common problem with smart tv is they do not support HD audio, so you need to choose a different audio stream like AC3 dolby digital or dts.

subtitles can also cause problems, if they are enabled try disabling them and see if it will direct play.

no subtitle, AC3 5.1 sound… nothing special.

Same Problem by using the Plex Client on my PS4pro. Transcode in every case down to 1080p.
Otherwise… the PS4pro delivers 4k

Ok well it sounds like its happening on 2 different clients?

Need to try to isolate whether it is the clients or server triggering the transcode, and whether it is something with the media file or a hardware issue.

check the quality settings on both the server and the client, make sure they are set for maximum or original quality

client @ settings > quality > local/remote = maximum

server @ https://app.plex.tv/desktop > settings > remote access > original quality & set upload speed

if for some reason the server thinks your tv is remote (not on the local network) then it will transcode according to the remote quality and upload limits

you can watch the debug log @ https://app.plex.tv/desktop > settings > console

and try to look for clues WHY it is converting (ie not enough bandwidth, or codec incompatible, or whatever)

Okay… now here the first Results with the onboard Client of my Samsung TV (see above)
At first… is test with the 4k Content i know as functional on the appletv in 4k.

with the plex client 3.13.21 on the panasonnic tv i have one error in the log

The warnings can be issued by the wlan connection.

My conclusion is, just Jozeph sad in the linked thread above, that the server did’nt realise that the client is on a UHD platform.

So now for the test with the same content on the PS4pro witch is directly connected and not thrue the VR-Headset. LAN Connection calble.
