Server Unavailable Across All FireTV / Roku apps

Server Version#: 1.18.5.2309 (Synolgy NAS Newest version)
Player Version#: 8.23.2.28087

Multiple FireTV and Roku apps across multiple users both remote and local (different wifi networks) all show my server as unavailable.

Same server is available and works fine with my AppleTV (local) as well as web apps on iPhone and iPad (both local and remote streaming.)

Anyone seen this - seems like a recent issue as everything was fine last week. Seems to coincide with an update to the app since I’m getting the “new modern UI” message on the app.

Given server works fine through other methods (appleTV, web, mobile app) and is a consistent issue across multiple users with different internet services - I suspect the issue is with the app?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

There is a problem with the current Android / Android TV app and older versions of Plex Media Server. See the thread linked below for details.

I’m not familiar with Roku devices. Others can assist with those.

PMS 1.18.5 is 18+ months old (released Jan 2020).

If possible, update to the current version of Plex Media Server, 1.24.3.5033.

Download PMS from plex.tv/download and perform a manual installation.

Given the PMS version you are using, you’re probably running DSM 6 on your NAS.

These two documents will assist with updating to the current version:

Regarding the problem with the Fire TV devices, the thread linked below has the details.

If you do not wish to update your version of Plex Media Server, you can use the workaround of disabling secure communications.

I didn’t see “peer certificate failed” in my log file, but I did encounter errors that were causing my Win10 processor to max and force Plex to become unresponsive. I blocked IPs (using Windows Firewall) and determined that they all belonged to Roku TV users. More info here:

Thank you! This got me oriented properly - I ended up upgrading to DSM 7 and the latest PMS Build from the download center. Like an idiot I didn’t read the upgrade guide until after I upgraded to DSM 7 which created a mess - but I think I’ve got it sorted now. Key trick I missed until seeing the upgrade guide was to move my PMS install onto the same volume as my media files.

Thanks for your help!
