Ok so i updated my plex web client on my pc to version 3.104.2 and litterally nothing (other than watching media i have on my pc… meaning i don’t need plex for that…) works anymore…
remote acces --> gone
watching my media on my ps4 --> gone. My server is always unreachable or unavailable.
I’m not going to list anything here, not going to spend hours trying to find a solution (i’ve allready been doing that for the past 2 evenings and i’m getting thouroughly annoyed). I never asked for an update that wrecks my sh*t.
If any devs are reading this: YOU guys are going to release a patch that undoes the latest update so i can watch my media again. I’ve been using this app for almost 3 years now and never had any problems, i never had to muck about in my router settings, never had to open or allow any ports, or what not. My knowledge about these things is very limited and i really have no clue what to do, right now. Reading other posts, seems i’m not the only one getting this issue.
You can’t update the local web client. You either used the hosted version which automatically updates to the latest version, or you updated your Plex Media Server which comes with a new local web client. If you updated PMS, then let us know what version your are on now and provide logs after reproducing a specific problem.
how i opened plex now and was redirected to a web page:
‘plex’ in search bar
click plex media server
nothing happens, other than the little plex icon appearing is the task bar on the right (next to the wifi icon)
double click on that
plex web page opens
i can also click on ‘plex media player’ and that opens a plex window, not a web page. Both look identical, though, and both seem to be running the same version
I’ve had same issue had a right nightmare for two days scouring the Internet and trying different options until I tried port forwarding and this worked. Never had to do this before. Wasted my weekend doing this! And where has the alphabetical search gone in library? I have to scroll through my entire film collection to get to a film I want to watch. Please bring it back!
Ok, that is correct. Plex Media Server does not have a UI. It runs in the background. Plex Web is what is used to manage your PMS. Using the icon in the task bar opens up your default web browser and uses the local Plex Web that comes with your specific version of PMS. This should be point to 127.0.0.1:32400/. You cannot update this version without updating PMS.
There is another version of Plex Web which you can load from our website at https://app.plex.tv/desktop#. This will always be the latest version. Then there is a 3rd version, which is Plex Media Player. This is a standalone player that has 2 modes. TV which has a different interface and looks like the Plex clients on Smart TVs and consoles, and desktop mode which looks just like Plex Web. This again is a specific version tied to the version of Plex Media Player you install.
Again, using a different version of the Plex Web client should not have affected your server unless you changed something else. And it should matter which version you use to try to fix it. if you can provide details on the version of PMS you are using and your exact issue, 1 at a time, we can try to help get these fixed.
did you not read my initial post…? I said i didn’t change anything, i only updated to the latest version. THAT is what caused the issue. Not me.
The link you provided seems to be running version 4.0.1… i wonder why the one i always used stopped at 3.104.2…? This is the version i’m getting in settings under the ‘web client’ tab. When i go lower, under the ‘settings’ tab, it shows another version → 1.16.3.1402
Ok. That updated Plex Media Server, so yeah that was a significant thing you did.
It’s possible you got a back update. I would suggest downloading the update from the website, https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/, run it, then choose the repair option. When it finishes, launch PMS and see if that makes things work again.
I gotta say i was sceptical about this suggestion, because i allready tried removing and reinstalling plex, but tried it anyway… and apparently that fixed the streaming to my ps4 issue… Bizar, but big thanks for that.
Now only the remote acces issue is left. This is also bizar, as remote acces always seems to work for 2-3 seconds before becoming unavailable again. I click on ‘retry’, plex connects to my server, remote acces fully accesible, no long accessible after a couple of seconds. After trying 2 times, plex seems to disable remote acces on its own and i have to turn it back on again. Weird.
I’ve seen some reports of remote access not working properly on 1.16.4, but since you are on 1.16.3, I don’t think you should be seeing that same issue.
Try checking your router and making sure your port forwarding rules are still correct.
It’s “possible” that your ISP has 32400 blocked off for some unknown reason, in plex, change the port to something like 53400 and then change that in your router port forwarding as well, and see what happens…
