Server will not update since 1.24.5.5173

Server Version: 1.24.5.5173
Server Update Sought: 1.25.4.5487
Windows 10 pro 64

Server has not updated for some time, and though it goes through the motions with the ‘grab a cup of tea’ splashscreen, the outcome is always that the server has stayed the same, stuck on, 1.24.5.5173

I have tried it from the top bar ‘server update available’ and from the general tab ‘download updates’. neither is successful.

If I wait long enough I will get an ‘unsuccessful’ and link to install manually, however the link just goes to a dead page ( https://plex.tv/downloads/latest/5?channel=16&build=windows-x86&distro=windows&X-Plex-Token=XXXXX)

The log file attached was turned on prior to my last attempted upgrade

Plex Media Server Logs_2022-02-02_22-13-14.zip (2.2 MB)

Mod Edit: Removed Plex token.

Download the update from plex.tv. Scroll to the bottom of this page, choose Plex Media Server under Downloads, download the desired version.

Stop Plex Media Server on your system.

Run the installer you just downloaded.

From the Announcement Thread: (NOTE) Database changes may cause longer than normal start-up times after initial installation of this update, especially on larger libraries. Please be patient and do not interrupt this process.

thanks @FordGuy61 , i’m all up to date :ok_hand:

hey @FordGuy61 , I spoke too soon.

though the server update was successful, i have lost all access to my libraries, as the server no longer recognises so will not attach to, my lan folders. the locations are still there, shown in the library settings, but any attempt to access the media through plex, or add a folder location to the previously available lan, fails.

if you can help getting me back to access it would be much appreciated.

Go to Settings → Library and, if checked, uncheck the box next to Empty trash automatically after every scan. This is temporary. It will stop PMS from deleting media information from its database.

This reads like a permissions issue.

Make sure the username you are using to mount the folders has the necessary permissions on the network server.

Configure Plex for debug level logging in Settings → ServerName → General (not in Plex Web settings). Do not enable verbose logging.

Reboot the PC running Plex Media Server. After the reboot, give Plex Media Server 2 - 3 minutes to start up.

Manually scan a library and then try to play something from that library.

If you still do not have access, then pull the logs (Settings → Troubleshooting) and post the ZIP file to the thread.

Hey @FordGuy61 , thanks for sticking with this.

I agree, the obvious thought would be a permissions issue, but it has to be something that has changed in plex relating to those permissions, not to do with my own user/Windows credentials access to those drives.

The LAN folders in question are where I store all data and media, I have nothing on my local drive. I continue to access the files and folders directly within the same user account as my Plex server, and I can still access those folders and files through other software such as VLC, and on other devices such as my Android phone and Firestick TV.

My Plex install has used those LAN folders from the first day of setup, and though Plex hasn’t been without technical glitches, this is different in that it is the first time it cannot see the drives at all.

Whenever I have set up a new library, or made edits to an existing one, the folder drive letters are there at the first stage of selecting a folder. Now they are not, only C: and a usb data stick on J: show as available. I would expect that if it were permissions, the missing LAN drives should still show as existing and my I: M: and N: drives as they always have, but that if I tried to add them permissions problems would result in being denied access.

I followed your steps, the only exception being that I have already commenced debugging. I started your process, dechecking the auto clean and rebooting, just after midnight CET on 15th Feb if you want a timestamp to help you.

Thanks again

Nick

Ha! well I have no clue what this reboot did that several previous restarts didn’t, but we are back in business. I tested a film before starting this reply, still not working, but now, success. And all the drives are showing again.

Thanks again very much for your help and interest, very much appreciated. Our fridge is on the blink too, if you could just pop round and take a look that would be great. :ok_hand: :upside_down_face:
