And you have proven it’s working in a different way now which is useless for my use case.
What is your use case?
Please explain and provide example.
If it’s photos, the new scanner they created isn’t implemented in Photos.
It would make sense to curate the media directories better and not just throw it all in a pile?
I see folks replying… I will interject quickly…
I am testing for the first time with sample photos and having difficulties – period.
The scanner does not operate consistent with the others.
It does not respond to “Scan Files” immediately as the others do.
This makes testing extremely difficult.
Diagnosing even tougher
Well, as already stated in my opening post I have raw files residing in the same directory as the jpeg files.
It does not seem so unusual as @axelbd and @rodgerj use the same system.
It is even as an example in the official documentation as a use case:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/201381883-special-keyword-file-folder-exclusion/

Thanks, it is really a major issue on photos where basically a whole library is displayed twice when raw images sitting next to jpg files are not ignored.
Hm for me the scan starts immediately after adding a file in a surveyed directory or if triggered manually via the server web interface.
And the formerly ignored files start to appear in plex.
I reached out to Engineering and asked for:
- Should the scanner be able to accept
*.jpgand similar expressions? - What does it take to have the scanner scan immediately upon demand?
I will reply when I get answers back from them
They are gone for the weekend. I will try again monday
Any news on this?
I am also interested to hear if there’s any news on this.
Movies and Episodes work.
Photos don’t yet.
I have nothing new to report.
Sorry
OK, any idea, when can expect a fix?
Attached a picture to illustrate how important this feature is for photo libraries. This is a screenshot from Android. Every second picture is a RAW (PLEX does not even change the orientation of those), the others the JPEGs. Unusable.
I have no insight into Engineering’s scheduling and prioritization.
I’m sorry
I’m equally frustrated because I’m the messenger (and usually get
)
Any way I can donate a cup of coffee, or buy something off an amazon wishlist to influence Engineering’s scheduling and prioritization?
Unfortunately no. We don’t have any influence . All we can do is keep asking and urging.
Thanks for your efforts ChuckPA.
Sadly, another release comes and goes with no fix to this issue. (Version 1.15.6.1079). There are many users anxiously awaiting a fix!
It turns out you can’t use the “request feature” thread to ask for this to get fixed.
Per team member MovieFan.Plex, the old threads are supposed to be bumped.
Could somone from PLEX please explain why this is not fixed yet? This is something that worked and is a documented feature (https://support.plex.tv/articles/201381883-special-keyword-file-folder-exclusion/) that is simply broken.
Is it because of other priorities of your developers? OK, if so, please tell us where they have this on the list and when we should expect a fix. What we are currently experiencing is that simply no one cares about, giving me doubts that this will ever be fixed.
Please do not forget that people here are your CUSTOMERS having paid for a PLEX Pass.
I have no new information on it. I suspect, given all the other major changes happening, Engineering simply has not had time to devote to it.
The just made major progress on finding a memory leak which has been plaguing since 1.14.1.
