Shield 2019 crashing to alternative track from TrueHD mid-stream

Server Version#: 1.32.6.7557
Player Version#: 9.28.0.3162
Denon audio receiver: X3700H - 7.1 configuration
Shield Pro 2019
Unraid server with Plex docker container (linuxserver.io)

Recently a constant issue has been happening where a stream that is including a TrueHD track (usually this is with 4K remuxes), will black out mid playback (locally over Gigabit) and suddenly switch to an alternative audio track (such as EAC3). This happens at a random amount of time into playback, it works fine initially but inevitably will crash anywhere from 10-30 minutes into playback. I can manually switch the track back to TrueHD but it will happen again during the session.

This has only started occurring in the past 3 months and I’m finally fed up with it. At first I thought it was the receiver overheating or something but I have ruled that out.

Edit: I also realized that the media exhibiting this bug were also not showing in Now Playing. My solution, unfortunately, was to completely rebuild my Plex install from scratch. It appears to have worked but should not have been necessary.

Another thread doomed to be autoclosed without support…

If anyone has a similar issue to this, my fix was to nuke the Plex docker and start over. I tried a bunch of troubleshooting, including letting the encode folder be rebuilt, but nothing fixed the issue. I found a couple threads and reddit posts with similar reports but no official solutions were provided.

While figuring this issue out, I also stumbled upon another related part of it in that the movies affected by this bug were not showing in Now Playing/having their playback tracked (you couldn’t stop the movie and then resume later for instance). Nuking appears to have resolved both issues but time will tell.
