Shield experience 9 upgrade, server dissapeared

9.0.1 seems to work fine for me. I might go down the hotfix lane for this one, but I’m not sure yet. HDMI-CEC is broken but I’m more inclined towards waiting for an official upgrade rather than toying around with hotfixes.

I can also happily report that on my Shield Pro 2019 with the latest 9.0.1 + hotfix #1 my PMS is working stable now with my PMS DB stored on external USB SSD with exFAT.

Only thing still not working for me is i can not access the /Android/data/* folders on my external USB SSD over the network (shared with SMB)
When accessing the “Internal” share via network with SMB i can see all folders in the /Android/data/* folder.

But this is an issue with Android 11 i believe (Paragon?)
Hopefully this will be fixed soon so i can use my backup script again to backup my PMS DB files on the external USB SSD!

It is possible to address the backup issue by using the scheduled tasks “Backup directory” configuration.

For example, I have my Shield backup the DB files every 3 days to a second USB thumb drive (NTFS in my case) with this setting:

/storage/<your_USB_drive_id_here>/NVIDIA_SHIELD/Database Backups/

Hopefully that helps for your setup as well.

I am aware of the Backup in scheduled tasks in PMS but this is not a complete backup with all my cached metadata, like film posters, day when items are added, etc.

I always backup the whole /Android/data/com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb/Plex Media Server/ directory to have a complete backup of everything.

That safed my *ss already quite a few times in al the years i have been using PMS now!

I’m not able to update to PMS 1.25.3.5575 since I’m running version 1.25.3.5448 that was sideloaded. It has been working fine for about a day now. I know version .5575 is the official release version, I was just wondering if there’s an difference/anything new with the new update. Thanks

There was an update for the Plex Media Server and after updating it the Atmos still didnt work. I then tried a Bluray disc that has Atmos and the Atmos worked. I then went back to Plex to watch my movie and the Atmos is now working. Hope it sticks.

With the updates - PMS still crashes and disappears.
Nothing new here.

I sideloaded the previous APK as well and then this update appeared in Google Play Store.

So far, nothing I can see, everything has worked since Hotfix 1 on 9.0.1 update. Only issue was with paragon and that’s now fixed so we’re good and have been for the last couple of nights without it crashing.

Damn the torpedoes! Full speed!
Updating 9.01 and updating PMS!
But first, coffee.

For anyone with Shield P2897, all is working well for me finally including external USB SSD 1TB formatted as “removable storage” by Shield and used as external “storage location” for PMS metadata, databases etc.

Additionally SMB is working better now but for those with Synology NAS’ I had to disable “signing” on the NAS in File Services > Advanced as it was slowing Shield down and eventually crashing PMS. This is an Android issue I believe for which I have raised a support request for on their forum.

Shield Android TV: 9.0.2 (33.1.0.291) HOTFIX #1
Plex Android TV: 8.30.0.30944
Plex Media Server: 1.25.3.5575 (8c547757)

After my Plex server blew when I updated to Experience 9, I successfully removed my external hard drive and factory reset the shield. I DID consider loading the hotfix solution but I’m not sitting down over the weekend to fiddle around with it. I’ll wait for the next patch and load it then.

Have you tried accessing Plex through an device other than the Shield? I just noticed that I’m to able to play Plex media on my PCs, iPhones, Samsung TVs etc. all on the same network. I’m on PMS .5448 that was sideloaded. I am able to see all my stuff on the aforementioned devices but get an error code (unavailable) when I try to play them.

first - go to the web plex server via webbrowser and check all your libraries.
Check pathes or re-assign them
Then on the tv samsung (for example) make logout from plex client and login

it s better but : (Official 9.0.1 + Nvidia hotfix 1)

DLNA still down and slow file transfer to server

102 hours of uptime without any hanging or other issues. 9.0.1 without any hotfixes and with disabled scheduled tasks. Scanning done manually through my phone pretty much every evening on selected libraries.

So far so good.

Are you able to stream via smart tv built in app?

you mean streaming video file on your tv samsung using plex client?

My Bravia, my FireTV, 3 android smartphones and an android tablet all have been streaming normally during the reported uptime. The mobile devices have been doing so both on local and remote networks.

Thanks, I’m doing another complete uninstall/re-install of both Plex/PMS and rebuilding my libraries over 1K in media. I’ll see what happens. It’s weird that I was able to stream via one Chromecast with Google TV and not the other and both connected in same manner. I wasn’t able to stream via any of my 6 Samsung smarttvs nor with my both Mac/Pcs. But I was able to stream via my 2 Shield Pro TVs (2017/2019)
