If your Shield received the 9.0.1+ First HotFix (33.1.0.291 deployed 2/16/2022) , then it will automatically receive the 9.0.1+ Second Hotfix (33.1.0.301 deployed on 3/2/2022).
From the NVidia site:
“The HotFix is per public release build. If you sign up for this HotFix, you will receive all updates to it until the next public release and that’s it. If you want to partake in future HotFixes, you’ll need to join them as they appear.”
I tried also to grab the ones from the shield plex Android app, by enabling network logging, but it returns a 401 if I go to /logging, but if I go to the web server interface on the lan I’m logged in fine.
I then disabled auth for my local network and I just get an empty blank page.
On the shield it returns error, on iOS it spins indefinitely and then - if it doesn’t error - it doesn’t pull and show the metadata.
It seems that the server also crashed overnight, I found a new update for the shield when I came back from work.
Thanks!
Per nVidia thread post related to the 2nd hotfix (released yesterday), one person posted this about file transfer speeds: wwmoggy wait an hour or more after updating before doing any speeds tests . android is sorting files in the back ground wait up to 5 hours if you an an external drive formatted as internal storage or and older 500gb pro.
** I did 60mb/s average before update 23mb/s right after 45 minutes later after letting it sit I am getting 119MB/s . both shields getting 111MB/s now**

Looks like nVidia are getting there finally. after 5 1/2 weeks or so.
Now if Plex can just fix the known issue - hardware transcoding broken in PMS 1.25, then I may finally feel comfortable upgrading (from Shield Experience 8.x.x + PMS 1.23.x to Shield Experience 9.0.x (Android 11) + Hotfixes (incl. bundled PMS 1.25).
Freezes still occur…just had to remove power cable out since shield didn t respond… plex was updating a library althouth the maintenance schedule was supposed to end at 08 am and now is 08 pm… tired of this situation caused by unprofessional stuff/staff… nvidia/ plex fault… don t know… only thing I know… not my fault!!! (Maybe i have some responsabilty since i ve trusted the upgrade… bad move)
i’ve got the hotfix 1 from last month and saw a new update available yesterday. i also went by the play store and saw that there was also updates for PMS and player. is anyone 100% up to date on everything? if so, how is it holding up? everything is working for now with an occasional reboot needed every week or so, so im very hesitant to instill trust again by updating anything at all.
Looks like the server is having issues finding your files. PMS will check a file to make sure it has the correct codecs needed to decode the file. Your server is timing out waiting for the file to be returned so it can do this check.
This along with your issues getting the Android log make it sound to me like the device is on a different network than the rest of your network. Or some other networking issue. I see the Shield is connected via ethernet. What is it plugged into?
Your logs also report there is DNS rebinding on your network. The Android and iOS apps have work arounds for this so it shouldn’t be causing issues, but it’s possible this isn’t working properly. Try fixing the DNS rebinding and see if that helps.
Regarding your server going down even with the old Shield TV software version (8.x), I suspect it is something specific to your configuration / setup (a setting perhaps or configuration).
I have my PMS data set up as Internal Storage (user accessible) and use an external USB NTFS HDD for my media.
I changed my 2019 Shield TV Pro’s HDMI port power settings ages ago (since it used to not wake up from sleep). Ever since that single setting change, it has been extremely stable.
I honestly cannot recall the last time I had to reboot it or that I had issues.
(I am on Shield Experience 8.x / Android 9 with PMS 1.23.x).
My one gripe is that Plex does not AUTOMATICALLY handle situations where some media does not play due to video or audio codec / track compatibility issues e.g.:
Firstly and I have defaulted the video quality setting to ‘Original’ now so this is NOT an issue for ME:
Scenario: If Video quality is NOT set to ‘Original’, some media files will not play, even though ‘Original’ is often a higher bit rate than the other options / selected option (e.g Original quality bit rate is 33.2 Mbps and the highest preset option is say 20 Mbps. Playback works fine if Video Quality is set to Original (33.2 Mbps in this example), but playback fails if it is set to 20 Mbps or another other preset option (which are all lower, ironically, than the 33.2 MBps original). Maybe it is trying to transcode and has issues (even though I am on PMS 1.23.x and am using the Shield to hardware transcode)?
Also for some media I have to manually select ‘Force’ (instead of ‘Auto’) for ‘Direct Play’ in order for media to play.
(One would think the ‘Auto’ setting would work, based on the name at least, and automatically select the best DirectPlay setting and force direct play, when that is the best option, but it does not do this automatically).
I may simply default to Direct Play and see if I encounter any issues.
Most recently playing back a Plex clip on my new TV (I believe), I had to manually change the audio track from Dolby Digital (DD) True HD 7.0 (Atmos) to DD AC3 5.1(that is rare luckily).
This is not an issue with my Roku when using a soundbar.
The last time I had my PMS configured with Shield for combined storage I would always get the error message that my storage was running low even when it wasn’t. Never made that mistake again.
Interesting.
I have not run into that at all on Shield Experience 8.x.x / PMS 1.23.x.
And luckily I do not have enough media, yet at least, that would require me to use external storage for my PMS data.
And by changing my PMS storage location from ‘Internal (System)’ to ‘user accessible’ (as opposed to ‘Internal (System storage)’, I can back up my PMS data very easily (to an external HDD or flash drive e.g.).
I do believe you’re running the best versions of everything in the best configuration possible.
I’m looking at downgrading to v1.23.x myself, but can’t avoid external storage due to DB size. I won’t do adopted storage as I like the ability to unmount the USB drive and attach to a computer for data transfer.
Depends on your setup but if it’s database corruption you may want to just try swapping in an older backup of the database and see if it comes up since it saves every 3 days by default to internal storage
I’m backing up the
/Android/data/com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb
folder now, before I do Shield factory reset, so that I wont lose thumbnails and other data.
How would I apply that backup to the new Plex server after the reset?
I’m still having to turn off and restart the shield every other day or so.
I’m running the latest PMS from the play store and the shield exp 9.01
Plex is installed on ext storage and using ext hd’s
I’ve replicated it/saved logs a couple times. tia
