Ah ok, i do not use those preview thumbnails because they can cause high CPU usage and i don’t really need them. And they would consume extra diskspace.
But as far as i understand they will be saved somewhere in the “Plex Media Server\Local” location so they should be included in the complete backup as well.
I tested all the updates, all the hotfixes, restart the full configuration of plex, loose many many times and like many here shield crashes during the scan, comes back when rebooting and PMS disappears after a few days. I’m tired of beta testing something that has always worked.
If you think that’s normal, good for you.
Don’t bother trying. I tried updating and my libraries didn’t have exclamation sign. Went to photos but no thumbnails and when I tried to open photo, it said “unable to open” or something similar. Plex server was available in settings.
After that I tried to restart shield, to test if the server stops working (like in previous fix attempts). Unfortunately, it stopped.
I know that Plex works for some users, but I’m sure that users having plex data on usb adopted storage still have this problem. I’m not reinstalling Plex until it is confirmed that the fix is ok.
I am so thankful that when this new update screwed up my Plex server, I immediately moved all of my libraries to a PC. I have had ZERO issues on Windows 11. When I was on Nvidia Shield Pro, even prior to the update, my server would go down every several days and I would have to reboot Shield to bring it back up. I had my Shield plugged into a smart outlet so that if I was out of town I could reboot it remotely.
For all of your sakes I hope that they continue to work through and resolve issues with Plex on Nvidia Shield, but I am happy I moved away from it.
I think that the majority of users have this working now. I have an external drive, and since the hotfix for 9.01 I haven’t had any plex server issues, going on a couple of weeks now.
The crashing during scans has been resolved since the last Shield update 9.0.2 (which is basically 9.0.1+hotfix #1 for that release).
I agree that (this time) it took a very long time before most issues were resolved.
To long for my liking but in the end i just want a working PMS on my Shield and i am willing to try the beta’s for that.
Fact remains that Nvidia and Plex should have tested their releases much better before releasing it to the public. Lets hope this will be a (painfull) learning experience for both!
Any updates on the issue based on my logs? The behavior is inconsistent, but I cannot consume my media if the clients returns a generic unexpected error.
I’ve enabled verbose logging too.
On iOS it spins indefinitely (sometimes it finishes, but after a long time, and it still doesn’t show the additional data).
On the Plex client on shield it just returns error.
From web interface everything is instantaneous.
I just updated to Shield 9.0.2(33.1.0.301) and Plex finally started rebuilding my libraries. I had 2 Shield hotfixes before that (not sure about exact version) and it didn’t work. Hope it keeps working.
Thank you
