It’s been over a week or two since I have been having issues matching around 7 anime series to tvdb. I know I can manually match them by using the “Match” but the series never gets displayed there and the odd thing is that one mentioned below was previously “Matched” and had all the metadata but was somehow unmatched and lost all the assets.
As the shows name has a colon I used it in the manual search option while matching and it displayed the tvdb entry. Now, this was extremely odd since I have never had any issues in the past with series having colons.
I follow same name pattern as tvdb for all my shows and yet ASS managed to link the series to tvdb while the default plex scanner failed to do so? Since my main library uses Plex Series Scanner I can’t just move onto ASS for a quick fix for the time being.
I don’t get what’s the issue here?! TVDB works fine on my end as it still pulls new metadata for other shows I have. I can’t seem the pinpoint the reason behind this but if I had to make a wild guess I’d say it from the time I installed the new server update. And also the other possibility is that tvdb with their upcoming API v3 launch I see that there could be initial issues. However, I confirmed that other plex users were able to match the series back even after deleting the metadata.
Thanks for the reply. Since it appears you also have this show in your Plex library I’d like to know if the show got automatically matched or did you follow the same method you suggested as well?
I am aware of the TVDB ID solution as an alternative search method. But as far as I recall I have never had any issues matching a series with the default Plex Scanner directly. I am using this method for the time being until Plex Devs can get this fixed in future updates.
I opened this thread to know the reason why the show doesn’t automatically match when everything including the show name in the Parent folder is accurate. I use TVDB names to make sure Plex detects them as they are displayed on tvdb.
But the issue I now believe has more to do with Plex, not recognizing colons “:” and/or dashes “-” characters before making a tvdb database search for the relevant info.
I tried entering “Kemeno Michi Rise Up” in the manual search and the show was not displayed.
Plex never had any issues detecting and matching shows with or without the colons in the past. And I asked others with the same show; some got it matched automatically while others just used the “Fix Match” and as you suggested the TVDB ID.
