Single MP4 not scanned by Plex

Server Version#: 1.14.1.5488

Never had this happen before. I keep the same naming conventions for all of my files. I have the move Thor_The_Dark_World.mp4 (tried without underscores, including modifying the metadata of the file via Properties > Details). Plex just seems to ignore it no matter what I do.

That said, there is one difference between this file and previously added files.

The subtitles for this movie were messed up. When I ripped it (via DVDFab), I added subtitles via an .srt file. The subtitles are rendered directly to the movie, and not in a supplemental file. I ripped it to mp4 and all looks good with the movie in the Windows Media Player. When I try to have Plex scan it the scanner acts as if it doesn’t see anything.

I tried looking at the scanner logs, but I don’t see anything useful in there other than some general hardware information

I have found other posts in regards to similar things, but the solutions for those don’t work for me (and I am not going to reinstall Plex). It just seems to be an issue with this one file.

Thanks in advance.

John

Logs:
Plex Media Server Logs_2019-02-20_22-01-26.zip (559.0 KB)

Update. Re-ripped without custom, .srt subtitles. It made no difference. Same result.

Update 2: Copied the MP4 to a new folder, added the folder to my library, and it shows up fine… Now I am wondering why it isn’t showing up from my desired destination like all of my other videos

Update 3: Copied the file to my NAS drive (where my other movies reside) and added a new folder. I then added it as a new library and it shows up too. Makes me believe there is some corruption to my current library?

In addition, when trying to add a new library, I point to the old one, and I can see the file in there from Plex’s view… just can’t figure out why it wont add it.

Correct the file name, then perform the Plex Dance: Plex incorrectly identifying TV episodes

Thx OttoKerner for the suggestion, however, it didn’t work. I tried a couple of times. I don’t have any plugins to worry about. I removed the file, ran a rescan, empty trash, clean bundles, added the file back and re-scanned. Still nothing.

I tried again but before copying the file back I exited the media server, copied the file, restarted the media server, and still no luck.

Which file name did you end up using?

THOR THE DARK WORLD (2013).mp4
THOR_THE_DARK_WORLD.mp4
GOMER.mp4 (just to see if it was a caching issue of some sort)

WHY ARE YOU USING ALL CAPS?
But yes, putting the release year in parentheses is the right way.

Have you checked if the file ended up as a ‘duplicate’ of a similarly titled movie?
(Look out for numbers on top of your posters)

Is there a .nfo file present in the same folder?
If so, does it contain a link to the IMDb?
And if so, does the link point to the correct movie?

Is the file located in a folder with ‘test’ or ‘sample’ in its name?

I don’t know about the caps… just habit I guess.
I don’t see any duplicates, however, my coworker does share his library with me, and he has the same movie in his, but it is named “Thor: The Dark World”.
There isn’t anything in the folder other than other .mp4 movies.
The file is located in this structure:
Y:\Disk4\5.1. Y: is an cifs share called Movies. It is mounted to my windows box, and contains 4 folders: Disk{1,2,3,4}. They all have similar structure. My movies either reside in a 5.1 directory, or a stereo directory.

Update: My coworker uploaded the exact image on his server and it detected it fine, so the issue is specific to my library it appears.

Then we’ll have to look at log files.

  1. activate debug logging (not ‘verbose’!)
  2. quit Plex Server
  3. wait 1 minute
  4. start Plex Server
  5. wait 2 minutes
  6. Plex Dance the movie again
  7. wait 3 minutes
  8. fetch log files and attach them here

Fix or workaround: I started noticing errors with other library files, saying they were unavailable (and they were there). Also seeing: plex error code s1001 (network)

I deleted the library and recreated it. Didn’t want to do it, but now everything is showing up as it should be. Looks like my original library meta-data somehow became corrupted.

I’d still recommend you to look out for database corruption and perform a prophylactic repair procedure.

  1. activate debug logging (not ‘verbose’!)
  2. quit Plex Server
  3. wait 1 minute
  4. start Plex Server
  5. wait 5 minutes
  6. fetch log files and attach them here

Or inspect them yourself. Take a look at the Plex Media Server.log file and seek for messages about database corrupt or malformed.
If you find these, you may have to repair your database.
