I love Plex, and greatly prefer it over Kodi since I can manage everything from a server, and I like the interface better too.
However, there is one major problem that is still not being addressed, so I want to bring it up, yet again. When setting a TV series (or the entire TV folder) to the “hide seasons for single-season series” two strange things happen. The first and most annoying thing is that the episodes show the series poster instead of the individual episode posters, and the episode name is also gone. Instead it just shows the series name and episode number, which is useless for documentary series.
The other weird thing is that if the episode has more than 23 episodes (or around that, it might be 24 or 25) it shows the episodes in a list, and you have to click “Show All” to get to episodes beyond that. Many anime series have 50 or 60 episodes an no season (i.e. one season) so this makes it inconvenient for those as well. Honestly, this should simply be an option: show series as thumbnail or show series as a list.
The first problem is far worse – the other I can sort-of live with. But for me this is especially bad since I have lots of anime series and documentary series, nearly all of which are “one season” and which I would like to see flattened. But it looks terrible that way because of this bug.
The problem seems limited to Android TVs – Shield and Firestick mainly, but those are major platforms, so I have no idea why this is not being addressed.
Too much work for something Plex considers “low value”?
Also, I seem to recall there is a new Android TV interface being beta-tested right now. Maybe this is part of that fix. I dunno as all I’ve seen of it is the playback controls.
I am happy to hear that it will be addressed. I have two Shield TVs and a Firestick, so basically, all the devices we play on have this problem. I understand not being able to give a time frame, but I do hope it will be soon. Thanks.
The problem is annoying. Don’t seeing the title and preview image in poster view like on web app leads to the problem, not knowing which episode i should select. For small kids series (only 16 episodes) it is not possible to select a specific episode, because my children wants to watch only specific episodes. In list view showing the season number and the episode number would be nice. There is enough space to display.
The possibility of selecting several specific episode for playing like on web app would be also a nice feature. I don’t want to create a new watchlist every evening.
I have this issue as well on my Firestick 4K. I had to switch my library to display the season in order to get it to show the thumbnails. This creates a problem for my very old parents, having to tell them that they need to go to the season of the show, not understanding what a season is, when they just want to watch the show. I hope this issue gets resolved.
So, it’s been a while now, @SamFromPlex… The problem is still there. I realize the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse have been loosed upon the world, but can we please get the espisode posters fixed for single season (or “don’t show seasons”) series on Android TV devices?
Well, the new UI change for the Plex Player on Android has sort of changed this a bit. Now, with “Season: Hide” selected under advanced (for the show), to flatten the seasons, I now see a horizontal list of the episodes with the episode picture instead of the show’s default thumbnail. That is an improvement, but there is no title for the episode – it only shows the episode picture!
Then, clicking on an episode, takes me to a second horizontal list of the episodes, with the episode I clicked on selected. This second list, which appears to be like the normal episode list within a season, does show the episode number, title, and a short description.
It would be best if the first screen (the show’s “root folder”) to show the episode number and title, and clicking on it there should play the episode, not take us to a second list.
But this is an improvement, so thank you for that. It could just be a bit better.
What no longer does what? The original post (displays series poster for every episode) or what I posted a couple of days ago, that the problem is sort of fixed, but theres a new, different but similar issue?
The problem is everyone hates the new UI and Plex has already said they are going to back to the grid view. So now the question becomes, are they going to actually go back to the old UI (which will cause this issue to reappear), or are they going to make a new grid display (so similar format but new so it wont have this issue)?
The reason this was never fixed for the old details screens was the new ones were coming and the fix for the old screens was non trivial. As far as I know the problem reported in thsis thread should no longer be an issue?
There is a few small issues around the display of the episode cards on the Single Season Show screen (there should be a title above them etc).
The grid will only be coming to collections for now as far as I know.
The horizontal episode list is the way most streaming services show episodes, so I guess that’s why Plex elected to do that. However, I always considered Plex’s grid view to be superior, and wished the other streaming services would do it that way, instead.
Yes, mwchase pointed out, it is as if we are still in “show” season view, even though we see episode thumbnail but when click on it will “run” the season “command” and take us into that season to the real episode view. The flatten season still doesnt really work… Back to “show” season view for everything.
