Server Version#: 1.21.2.3943
Player Version#: 7.13
Ever since the beta update in 7.11 that “Added a more vibrant application background that changes based on focus” loading libraries have been significantly slower on my 4K Apple TV. My largest library contains 50,000 movies which takes a bit of time to load now. I went ahead and timed how long it actually takes. It takes 1 minute and 9 seconds to load that library. I don’t feel the appropriate suggestion here should be to reduce library size. The Player is not loading all 50,000 movies at once. It only loads a few rows at a time. And it used to be quick to load before.
It may be worth mentioning that the Andriod tv Plex app on my Nvidia Shield, which is running 8.12.3(the latest version as of the time of this post), has no issues loading any library. That version also does not have the vibrant application background change. I’m not sure this issue was caused by the implementation of the vibrant background I just know that was when the issue started on my Apple TV. I always check the Plex Players after every new beta update.
If there is any additional information the developers feel would be useful I would love to provide it. I really enjoy Plex and do a lot of development for my plex server myself to help me manage all my files. I genuinely want plex to be as good as it can be which is why I continue posting on the forums despite most of my issues being met with no responses.
I don’t have a particularly large library (300 or so movies) but the entire UI feels slower and clunkier to navigate on my ATV4 after that same update.
I’ve definitely noticed this too. Especially with my TV library, to the point, it’s become almost unusable. If I click on a show, there is a dramatic delay scrolling through the seasons and other suggested viewing. It all keeps freezing.
The latest 7.14 beta update with the darker dynamic background update increased the load time for my library to 2 minutes and 35 seconds. This is honestly very frustrating. I’ve pointed out a clear problem yet the issue seems to grow worse with each update. What is the point of encouraging your users to beta test your product and report issues on the forum if you won’t listen?
Maybe I should further clarify by saying that the slow load occurs on the Library tab in my movie library. Not the Recommended tab. While I feel design is important I don’t think it should ever be prioritized over performance.
Yes, agreed. The latests versions significantly increase load time to a point that it becomes very annoying. This combined with the fact that the libraries often don’t refresh when libraries are added to until after a restart makes using Plex on my Apple TV 4K very annoying.
Have the same problem with my Apple TV 4K and Apple TV takes even longer… 22K movies, well over 60 seconds to load and over 120 seconds for the Apple TV.
I did some more testing…
more friends with huge plex libraries suffer from the same issue.
recommended and collections of the same library are opening reasonable quick.
big “library” views taking more then 2 minutes to open. scrolling is really bad as well … mostly ends in a freeze and it will return after a longer moment.
Hi folks, sorry you’re seeing this issue. I’ve been unable to reproduce long library load times at my end, but I don’t have any libraries the scale of yours!
Would anyone be open to sharing a library with me that reproduces the issue? (Can unshare it again once I’ve had a chance to figure out the issue!)
