how did you leave the beta program? I don’t even know how I am on the beta program, I’ve only ever signed up for the iOS beta which i’m now out of
If you go to this link:
https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.plexapp.android
after you sign in with your google account (if you are in fact signed up)
You should be able to leave the program from there
I’m not even eligible for beta in my country apparently.
That’s odd. In that case I have no idea why you are getting the beta’s
That google account is the one you are signed into on your TV?
sorted. that was my work google account. Logged in with my personal one and got this. I’ve now left the beta program.
Same problem on my Sony AG8
The issue started with 7.26.0.14345 and it’s still there with 7.26.0.14385
I had to uninstall Plex and then sideload version 7.26.0.14321
Working ok now
Turned off auto-update until the problem is solved.
same here, old version solved theproblem, and i was on beta testing as well, left
Not to just pile on but I’m in this boat. It’s completely unusable with the latest revision.
However to add a bonus the new-er (at leas 1-2 updates before this one) fast forward/rewind is a Huge upgrade. This is far faster and doesn’t do the weird thing where it’ll just start going ahead for 1-10 minutes and then I’m in a battle to fast forward and rewind.
Whatever happened in this last update makes Plex unusable though. I have to now cast to the TV from a device do anything. Only while selecting. After selection things work.
It’s so slow to the point that browsing is almost impossible. Moving between pinned sources is so slow that pinned sources randomly shown as inaccessible or with yellow triangle mark. Especially if you have many friends remote servers.
And sometime if so slow that Plex think it needs Plex Relay to connect to servers pinned. Or even Plex Tidal become inaccessible with that yellow triangle mark.
Once you manage to browse somehow, and manage to play something, the playback itself is DirectPlay without Plex Relay. So all that errors, and slow UI was just the app’s fault I think. Especially if you compare it to much older version of Plex Android TV, or compare it to Plex Kodi add-on, the latest Plex Android TV is so darn slow. From app initial start-up, loading Home, browsing the different servers pinned, browsing the movie detail page, these all are so darn slow it could take 4-7 minutes of total loading and waiting. Whereas Plex Kodi add-on, and much older Plex Android TV app is fast, reactive. I’m using Nvidia shield tv, the most powerful client… I can’t imagine how much slower it is in regular smart TV. Compared to jellyfin or Emby, the latest slow problem in Plex Android TV app is just … Embarrassing.
Last night I had to install jellyfin server because Plex Android TV has become unusable. I’m guessing too many features, too many network packets and checks that bogs down even the most powerful client like Nvidia shield tv.
Mate, you are in the beta so there can be issues like this occurring. This was a critical issue that’s was discovered on Friday afternoon and the fix should be rolling today.
Would you like me to remove you from the beta programme so you don’t experience issues like this again in future?
Thanks to the useful replies here that helped us to narrow down the cause and find a quick resolution.
This issue has been fixed in v7.26.0.14396 and should be available via Google Play shortly.
Yes, the latest update (7.26.014396) seems to have solved the slow interface.
Thanks.
Yep its fixed in the latest beta
The latest beta you said doesn’t fix the issue.
Here’s logs of me tested it.
Issues:
-
App start-up, browsing, choosing between pinned different remote sources are very slow. Despite my home Network utilization is under 10%
-
Servers were wildly changing status from accessible to inaccessible, to offline, to requiring Plex Relay . You probably can see from logs, if you scroll fast enough to the pinned server and choose movie/tv , just fast enough before yellow triangle mark shows up, you can actually browse the server content and play it just fine. But once it has the yellow mark, or any warning of server inaccessible or requiring Plex Relay, you are out of luck. It’s hit and miss. Sometime “retry connection” works sometime it doesn’t.
-
Overall it’s slow to browse and Change servers when you have several friends remote server. It’s wildly changes, one minute you can access/browse a server very fast. The next minute it shows as inaccessible. I’m guessing lots of false alarm packet timeouts, packets ignored or dropped. But I was monitoring my overall home Network, definitely not dropped by my router. My NETDATA monitoring doesn’t show any alarms.
I suggest some sort of “keep-alive” connection, or caching more stuff, to reduce the number of times Plex send packets. Or less checking of stuff just to browse between server and browse to enter movie/tv detail page. If you revert Plex client back to the first update of exoplayer v2, a very old version, that Plex client is so much faster, lighter at everything…
@raditokyo sounds like a completely different issue. I’ll make a ticket to investigate.
I’m not sure what you implied. An issue is an issue which TBH sounds and looks the same as others commented. Regardless… It’s an issue that made Plex Android TV become unusable…
Anyway here is another test
This time even Plex Tidal was slow or showing offline mark. But when you are fast enough to click something, you can browse it albeit very slow. The bottom line here is browsing and overall interface is very slow and sluggish.
I’m not implying anything
My understanding is the other reports in this thread were caused by a weird unexpected side effect of changing the format of the unwatched badge, which only seemed to affect Sony Bravia TVs. We were able to reproduce that issue and have fixed it.
The issues you’ve outlined seem related to network behaviour and are a different problem. So we will investigate them separately.
@raditokyo we also made some changes recently which reduce the amount of connections we tests concurrently. Looks like one of your servers has 33 connections which is the likely the culprit in combination with that change.
We are looking into what we can do about this scenario. For the short term you could try signing out and back into your server which I believe will reset the connection pool
@raditokyo Looks like the slow connection is coming from a shared server you have access to. We’ll need startup PMS logs to figure out why they have so many connections. Would it be possible for you to contact your friend and have them provide their PMS logs after restarting PMS and waiting about 3 minutes?
I have only one server which is owned by another account of mine as admin account.
Which server is the culprit?
The other servers are of my friends’ which I have only access as Plex friend.
I tried this and a lot of other things and doesnt work. The servers becomes randomly inaccessible regardless of whether the server is my local server owned by Plex home admin, or my friend’s remote servers, or Plex Tidal/podcast servers.
Which one you’re talking about?
I have only one server which is local idle PMS on Nvidia SHIELD tv. In any case, I was just clicking the app and browsing through my pinned sources. That shouldn’t have relationships with PMS logs right?
I can give you my PMS logs from Nvidia shield tv but the other servers are my friend’s servers, not mine .
Again stating the fact that sometime Plex own servers (?) for Tidal/podcast/etc randomly becomes inaccessible makes it seems like a client app issue.
I tested by login to my managed user and Plex home admin, that these accounts have only access to my local PMS, no access to shared server ad the issue persists. As in sometime my Home is empty(!) because my local Plex and Plex online sources was either showing yellow triangle mark, or doesn’t show at all other than " this page is empty" something like that.
I remember long time ago Plex do all sorts of checks like checking all files to see any files updated within folders to figured out any updated subtitle before letting user go through movie detail page, among other checks to bunch of other devices registered with the account. Isn’t this kind of thing maybe the culprit that makes browsing slow, or bogging down Android devices client app?
Bottom line, what can I do to make this resolved other than waiting for an update fix to be released?
I’m currently forced using Jellyfin and Plex Kodi app but then I don’t get Plex Tidal/podcast/ news which believe it or not I use it daily on my main TV.
