Slow user interface

The server that starts with “neb”.

We’re aware of this and working on some fixes.

I ran into some slowness during my testing and it had to do with the app reusing some bad cached data. Clearing the app data and starting over did fix things for me. I know it’s a bit drastic, but may solve some of your issues.

This doesn’t work for me.

Here’s another log

This was from another Android TV 5.1.1 device with latest beta .14438
As you can see at some point all Plex own servers for Tidal, news etc shows as offline, yet I can play news, albeit slow UI navigation.

That’s weird. I rarely use that server. It was shown offline in a way I can’t browse at all at the menu level. I guess “neb” server is actually powered off by the owner.

If you’re not using it I would recommend you leave that server then and see if it improves your experience.

Just go to https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/users-sharing, select that user then in the Shared with Me section at the bottom click on the server and then select Leave Server.

I maybe wrong but that’s sort of ridiculous way to solve a UI slow issue.
And anyway the problem with slow UI and servers randomly shown as inaccessible persists even when I use my Home Plex admin that doesn’t have any shared server, have only Plex online sources and my local server. Tidal, news and podcast was slow to navigate and sometimes showing yellow triangle mark, or showing empty page.

As mentioned, that server has published a bunch of ways to connect to it. The app is testing those connections. Usually, if a server is offline, it gets the result quickly and moves on. However, if that server is setup in a way that it’s actually online but not connecting properly, it can tie up that connection. So imagine 20 of these connections open waiting for a response. It’s like opening 20 web pages and waiting for all of them to load. This is going to tie up other tasks.

As a test, try logging out your local server, then sign out from the app. Skip the sign in step which should allow you to access only your local server. See if the navigation is still slow.

Plex on both of my Bravia TVs is back to working normally, thanks for the speedy fix.

I’ll take on board the recommendation to opt out of the beta for these devices; at this point Plex is such an integral part of the family’s TV habits that I can’t really take the chance with betas (as stable as they usually are).

Because my family uses shared servers I can’t do that. Now I’m uninstalling Plex client on shield to the factory reset version 5.6.1.505. This version doesn’t have Plex online sources which is unfortunate but it is very fast on searching and navigating UI especially changing between servers. I think I have to revert all my Android Plex client app to this old version.

Here’s what I noticed. When Plex tries connection to other servers and for some reason can’t do that, it seems that Plex mark this servers only available via Plex Relay. but I found that’s not the case. The connection to the servers were fine via pings etc from shield tv command line terminal. And the connection and ports are open hence no need Relay. Maybe in the app, the connection test was dropped or delayed. Maybe Plex needs to wait longer before declaring connection time-out, maybe needs keep alive, or caching, or just-in-time lazy connection, as in only trying to connect only when necessary to play something, and cache everything else, I don’t know, but it really looks like there’s no problem on the network and server side as any test from inside shield tv command line terminal shows just fine. in fact Plex Kodi add on is so fast and doesn’t get affected by this.
