Server Version#: 1.19.1.2645
Windows 10 Pro: 10.0.18363 Build 18363
After updating to the latest PMS version 1.19.1.2645 the “Smart” playlist function is no longer working when creating a new playlist from the custom filter results. I have created dozens of smart playlists but all new playlists I create from a custom filter results list is being saved as a regular playlist (static) instead of a smart playlist (dynamic). Something seems to have broken with the smart playlist feature in the newest version of PMS. I have followed the same routine as I’ve always used to create smart playlists but using a custom filter result only now saves it as a standard playlist. Anyone else having this problem?
I haven’t used the Plex for Windows player, but things have changed in Plex Web. There is now a separate command for creating Smart Playlists.
In the Custom Filter UI:
I’m guessing that, if you’re doing this from the Plex for Windows player, the new feature may not be there yet. If that’s the case, you may need to create Smart Playlists via Plex Web until the feature is rolled out to other apps.
The other nice thing is, you can now edit the conditions for your existing Smart Playlists (experimental feature in Plex Web 4.31.1. Use with caution).
Thanks for replying but I don’t have the Player app installed. I only have the Plex Media Server (current version) installed and access it through my web browser. Where are you seeing the “Save As” function within the Custom Filer UI because I have nothing like that available. I only have an “Apply” and “Cancel” button…no “Save As” button.
It’s a new feature, but I’m not sure which build of Plex Web it originated in. The hosted version (4.31.1) has it, but the locally installed version (4.22.3) doesn’t.
I just tried making a smart playlist with 4.22.3, and it worked correctly. So my guess appears to be wrong. The new feature doesn’t appear to be the cause of the problem.
I checked and I have the Plex Web version 4.22.3 installed and I don’t see that Save As option on the Custom Filter UI and simply selecting the files from the filtered results then clicking on the “Add to Playlist” button simply gives me the option to Create playlist but the resulting list is now a standard instead of smart playlist as used to be the result from a custom filter.
You are accessing Plex web through your local server (PMS 1.19.1 has Plex Web 4.22.3 installed locally). This version of Plex Web does not yet support the new approach to handle smart playlists – so as per leelynds post… you should still be able to create a smart playlist by creating a custom filter and create a playlist from there.
If you use the hosted version of Plex Web (through app.plex.tv/desktop, this will give you the new/updated smart playlist management/handling
Edit: editing of smart playlists and the related changes to the UI have been added as experimental features of Plex Web 4.31.1.
See below the related release announcement.
Thanks for the info Tom80H. Yes, My Windows 10 Pro X64 system had Plex Media Server 1.19.1 installed locally, which is the only way I’ve ever managed my Plex libraries which are stored on two NAS’es on my home network. Let me give the hosted version “app.plex.tv/desktop” a whirl and maybe I should have been using the hosted version all along?
That and the change of the “add to playlist” button from the screenshots above in a dropdown with the option to “add to playlist” or “create smart playlist” with a set of recently used static playlists to add to directly.
Yep…the hosted version works perfectly and I love the new feature allowing me to edit filter criteria on a smart playlist. Kudos to the development team!
