SMB mount gets read, but does not play

Server Version#: 4.125.1

Hi there, so my router provides smb sharing, I hooked up an external hard drive with my media on it.

I spun an Ubuntu Server VM installed plex. Set up a directory, and mounted the routers SMB share. Created a library in PMS, all media gets recognized, posters ge tloaded etc. however when I try to play a movie, I get “Error code s1001 (network)”

So I started toruble shooting:

Didnt help, tried al sort of tweaks in etc fstab, nothing works. Any ideas anybody?

s1001 network is usually related to playback - not reading the media

Can you provide the DEBUG server logs ZIP of the playback attempt?

That way. we’ll see from when playback was requested until it failed and then diagnose why & correct

BTW… If it’s a new plex server set up then make sure you have run analyse on the library.

I’ve seen the s1001 error happen on media which has not been analysed so said I’d mention it incase it helps.

Where is your Plex VM running on? On the router device?
If it doesn’t, plug the hard drive directly into the machine which is running the Plex server. You’ll achieve nothing by abusing a router as a file server.

Thanks @ChuckPa just tried uploading the ZIP and got an error, any specific files I should be looking at to upload. FWIW: I plugged the drive into the VM; and it played the movies…

@anon5074910 Thanks - tried this, but did not work

@OttoKerner No the VM runs on a NUC on Hyper V

@dffvb

The ZIP file should be less than 5 MB which is well within the limits of what the forum allows. (Just realized you’re new to the forum. After 24 hours in the forums, you’ll be allowed to upload more so perhaps better to wait another 2-3 hours)

Should you not be able to do that, getting into

cd "/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server"
tar cfz /tmp/PlexLogs.tar.gz ./Logs

will create the tar.gz logs as well.

Next, take the file /tmp/PlexLogs.tar.gz and upload that file here
